Does anyone know where I can find a good calendar for overall dates in the show? Things like Winter Wrap Up and Hearth's Warming being in the winter while the Summer Sun Celebration most likely takes place during the Solstice are fairly obvious ones, but what about other dates, like the Gala or Hearts and Hooves?
I'm trying to get away from mentioning specific days and keeping to a strict schedule, but the fact is I'll probably never be able to emulate the show and other fics where one big event happens every week or so while plain old character interaction and activity happens off screen. That's just not my style, at least for something like this. However, I'd still like a calendar for overall dates. That way I can work out when exactly Thomas showed up and what's happening next in the year.
I have never found any thing even close to this.
to tell the truth I don't know if one code be made as the show makes huge jumps and at times back tracks.
example season 1 to season 5 GGG is that one year between or several.
winter rape up is another example.
but in season 5 cadence / pregnant.
and it looks as if mid season 6 she pops in real life equines carry 11 mounts.
if you are trying to put together a colander for a story good luck.
3783878 Okay, then how about an estimate. If Summer Sun happens in late June, and Thomas has been in Equestria for about 4 months, when do you think would be a good day for the Gala?
season 1 ep 13 running of the leaves.
ep 26 GGG.
backing up winter wrap up is ep 11
ok season 2 night mare night is ep 4.
I would throw it around beginning of October or late September.
3784030 Hmm. Maybe.

that was just a super fast look at season 1 and 2
It's pretty severely ambiguous on the show, so you'll have better luck developing approximate time-frames and giving them dates for yourself. As far as I know, it isn't really possible to get specific canon dates because of that ambiguity.
Personally, I'm putting the Grand Galloping Gala around mid to late April. End of March for the earliest point in the year. Nightmare Night is easy, as is Hearth's Warming, Winter Wrap-up, and Hearts & Hooves Day. The Running of the Leaves is flexible, but somewhere in September to beginning of October works well. Even Rainbow Dash's birthday is completely unspecified beyond it not being in the middle of winter.
3784340 Hmm. According to Wikipedia, the summer solstice is in late June, meaning the story would now be set somewhere September and November. I'm planning on doing as Dusk Shine's Saga where each season is actually a year. This in mind, I think that means either Nightmare Night is just around the corner, or Luna wasn't up to it so they skipped it this year. Might have to go with the latter and have Nightmare Night, October, happen between the prologue and first chapter. Come to think of it, I guess that means Hearth's Warming is just around the corner, which also means that my plans for the Gala will have to be postponed.
Thanks. Talking this stuff out really helps. For now, I think I'll have the Gala set in March and other holidays at their respective equivalents.
3784449 No problem. Sometimes even a marginally different perspective can deliver great clarity or inspiration that you're trying to drum up for yourself.
Personally, I stay very flexible to stuff like dates of the celebrations. If it isn't a very clear analogue, I will slide it around the time-frame it falls into unless I need to give it specific timing.
3784567 I suppose that makes sense. Mostly all I needed was an order of dates. That in mind, I guess that puts the characters in mid November, meaning Hearth's Warming is the next big event. Gonna have to interject notes here and there to comment on how cold it's getting until snow starts to fall. In fact, this actually fits in with an arc I'd been trying to figure out how to present. Thanks again. Now I've got a plan.
