Stories I've Helped On: Interviews At The Canterlot Exchange · 8:12pm Jan 14th, 2016

I will admit, I did not think I'd need to do a signal-boost on this one.

billymorph again, and this time a story he's won 90$ for (!) in the recently finished up Transformation group contest.

[Sci-fi] [Human] [Slice of Life] — Teen — Currently ~6000 words published, currently updating daily.

The Canterlot Exchange, ten thousand humans and ponies pass through its doors every day, on their way to destinations all across Earth and throughout Equestria. Some are wide eyed migrants, others are only passing through, or on their way to find the most exotic holiday of their lives. They are mavericks, heroes or just everyday travellers, but every one has a story to tell. These are just a few of the tales I've gathered from the Canterlot Exchange.

A nicely rapid-fire pace, a framing device you don't see much on this site (EI, a series of interviews), and a ton of world-building as well as interesting characters from all walks of life.

Highly recommended.

Read it here.

Thanks for this Dorkness, I've really got to stop posting stories on the weekend it seems :facehoof:

That looks pretty interesting. It's certainly a very different kind of format and I enjoy that whole idea of exploiting the dimensional portals for casual travel. I'm always a sucker for stories that actually try to find the practical utility of things like that and fit them into the world as actual parts of it, used in the way real people would instantly try to use something this convenient. I think I'll be following that one.

Now if only you could go and help yourself finish the next chapter for Dark Horse. :derpytongue2:

Yeah, I know. I certainly haven't been spending the last three weeks too productively, either. I just thought of that line and then couldn't just not use it. You know how I am. :rainbowlaugh:

So, the reason this story is having problems is when the story approvers got around to it. There was a backlog of stories, and the new story list didn't change for over an entire day. This story was submitted during that time.

But then, the stories were all approved, rapid-fire, one after another. The story stayed in the new story list for less than a single hour and was pushed to the 'updated stories list' instead. It was removed from there less than two hours after its publication, meaning the only way to even see the story existing was feeds, and the popular story listing, which as you know is randomized for each page upload on what it displays (even if you could scroll down to see it). It remained there for about 6 hours before it disappeared all together.

I feel if the story approvers hadn't forced the story from the new story list by allowing that backlog in the first place, it would have definitely been featured. As it was, it was almost featured. I am rather annoyed that it missed the chance, as I was really looking forward to the story being featured and getting a bump of interest from that. I wanted to see it get popular enough for other people to write stories in that universe. It still may, but it'll be climbing a mountain in difficulty.

It also didn't help that the first chapter was good, but not great. I feel it should have contained at the very least two chapters. Some readers have standards for giving a thumbs up for length, after all.
