Reviews, Story, and Chapter Release Patterns. · 5:09am Jan 2nd, 2016

Happy New Year, everyone. I swear this seems to happen at least once a year.

Now, for completely unrelated reasons, I have news. Not the least of which is what Cutie Mark Crusaders: PRINCESSES has prompted.

Now that I can type without ballooning my post size in your news feed (if you look, I honestly used to not know how), I'll start with reviews.

Writing (public) story reviews has come to mind every couple of months as something that I might consider. I have found myself with a little more time to read as of late, which was the number one reason I didn't actually consider the idea in any serious context before. I haven't done it, evidently, mostly because I have no idea if I'd be just one of many with nothing to say and a lot to say it about. There's two sides to that. First, I don't really know how common it is for people to write somewhat in-depth reviews, and second, I really don't know if what I end up writing is worth anything to anyone, aside from perhaps the author. It's only on the table for now, but if anyone has thoughts on whether they might or might not like to see that happen, please let me know.

What I'm willing to bet is the reason most of you followed through the break is the possibility of more CMC:P. I still don't know why it has done so very well. As of right now, it is ranked 5,118 on Fimfiction. I'll probably have an answer for that at about the same time that I figure out why exactly most of my stories are about the CMC.

Regardless of its success, CMC:P inspired what I thought at first would be a single story to cover the same idea in higher quality. I was wrong. It's a whole world that I intend to make several stories in. I won't make any promises about most of those right now, but what I can say is that the world and the first story in it have been well under way. This time, I will actually put in effort in the hopes that the quality will improve over CMC:P. I'll even have to think up a decent cover.

You should thank Bugsydor, FanOfMostEverything, and cogwheelbrain for providing a lot of input and helping me to sound out ideas for the world. I'll probably end up thanking them some more when the stories come out, because it has really been that helpful. Without, I'd probably be wandering around my head grasping at straws, with little hope of writing anything decent in a reasonable amount of time.

Onward! I have a few thoughts on this already, but I do wonder if any of you have preferences regarding chapter releases. Specifically, whether you would rather they be released only when the story is complete (either all at once or in parts), or when/soon after they are completed. I'm sure that my own blog is less than the most helpful place to ask these sorts of questions, but you all reading this are, after all, the people who have been reading (at least one of) my stories.

Personally, I prefer have chapters get released as they are written, rather than all at once. Then again, I read a lot of works in parallel. :derpytongue2:

The success of CMC: P isn't nearly as baffling to me as it is to you. If that story was you just slapping words on electronic pseudo-paper as fast and carelessly as you dared, I am definitely looking forward to seeing what comes next.

I would probably read the reviews you write, should you choose to do so. It could direct me to some cool reading material I hadn't yet bothered with. It'd be fun to get some outside insight on people's fics, at the least, seeing what things stick out to you.

Good luck on finding a good cover! You could even try getting a commission for it, if you're really invested in it.

When the story eventually does come out, I hope you'll announce it in another blog post tagged with CMC:P?

I suppose I can put out a little blurb, if you're that interested.

I get to revise behind the scenes if they aren't all out yet, and nobody would know. :scootangel:

Well... nobody else. :derpytongue2:
