I mean, why? Why is it that a story I pour over a week of effort into gets one hour in the new stories box and then is condemned to perpetual limbo, never to be looked at by anyone but me again, while some other shitty story get posted and within ten minutes get rocketed into the goddamn featured box?
I mean, really. I get my story posted at peak viewership time for the day, get no freaking comments and gets dropped into a couple of people's "Tracking" folder even though it's a complete story. Meanwhile, Joe McF*ckerton posts some story, and five minutes later, despite having fewer likes, fewer words in his story, fewer views, more dislikes, and being in fewer groups than my story did at that same time, gets alicornised and given a place of freaking honor? What the hell did I do wrong?
God, sometimes it's hard to write for this site. Because it seems like no matter what I do, no matter how well I do it, it will never be noticed, by anyone, ever. And yet, cookie-cutter story #1,511,320 gets featured and gawked at and people love it.
It's not that I even really want to be featured, to be honest. I'm just pissed off because it's like my work means nothing. And I'll never ask for likes or anything of the sort, but... is it really so much to ask for one person to say "Hey, I liked your story," or "Good work," Or something like that?
Oh, well. Onto the next one. Hopefully people will like it a little bit more.
Well, I just downloaded it onto my e-reader, so that's one read/bookshelf/whatever that you're actually getting but isn't increasing your numbers. I'll try to remember to comment after I finish it.

My latest clopfic, Sharing Is Caring, didn't do that well at first. However there are some other clopfics with even worse grammar errors, poor writing, etc that get praised no matter what mainly just because of fetish fuel bias. Sometimes it's the other way around. A very well written clopfic of Big Macintosh having sex with Winona gets flamed up the ras yet a bare-bones cookie-cutter clopfic of something like Human/Twilight Sparkle that's also well written but praised so much.

Bro, I know exactly how you ought to feel but don't let that get you down. Your writing is exceptional. Yes you might or might not let a mistake or two slip through in the final edit; honestly, majority of the work that I've read here compared to yours leaves very much to be desired on their part. Improper spelling and grammar indeed...
Quality over quantity. I'm pretty sure you're well aware of this idiom. You might not have the followers others have or the amount of likes that they get and you most likely feel cheated (I'd be annoyed too if I was metaphorically robbed of my five minutes of fame). I can't speak for others, although I believe that you have something going right here. FimFic screwing you over or not, the rest will come in time. I understand that it doesn't help that your life is putting you through the blender right now. Just remember there are people who enjoy what you do more than anything.

The truth is that 90% of this site know how you feel.
But that's how the system works, it's like a lottery. It can be frustrating, but we keep trying.
The thing is, my friend - in this world, is not creativity what matters, but the appeal to the masses. That's the unfortunate truth. Most of the stories in the featured box follow practically the same patterns. Of course there are exceptions, but they are rare.
This site is largely populated by horny teenagers, so if all you want is attention, write porn. But not any kind of porn - that kind of nasty porn, that almost everyone here seems to idolize.
It sucks, but it's true.
You write porn, you get an elevator, you write fantastic novels, you get the stairway. It will be harder to reach the top, but it will worth the wait.

I know, your story is actually really good once i put my head in the right place, but remember it's not just you. I have seen so many stories worthy of a feature, but there not and it's really disappointing that there not, heck your story deserved a feature, but it also seems that it's "popular" writers that always get a feature no matter if the work is good or not. Now i am a utter shit writer so any story i will post will never get a feature, which is a shame because i do admit that i am a very good thinker of original ideas and plots, but it's my terrible writing that lets it down. So when or i do post a story it will never get the feature, but yours should and many other stories should as well.
I think the problem in part is that harem fics are ALWAYS popular... Princest is a more refined taste. And one that I very much enjoy!
I just remind myself that all the other fan fiction sites are absolute shit.

It's because your story isn't a super edgy displaced fic.
Probably something with the Featuring Index.
I belive that one could use some fine tuning (like more Thumbs up vs Down ratio beeing taken into account).
And probably also something that If your story has a goot ratio over longer Time that It actually can get into feature box, because it's a long runner.
Many stories that go feature box are pretty short lived:D
