I have reworded this to suit myself and the way in which I associate myself with my friends:
I consider you to be a friend of mine. I am aware that you think likewise in my case.
If, or when, you smile, the chances of this garnering a smile from myself are rather scarce, as I will likely fail to find humour or cheer in whatever it is that you are smiling on account of. Further to this, I would more than likely smile on the inside than on that outside.
If, or when, you hurt, depending on the contextual situation and the scale or weight of the situation, there is a very slight chance that I may "hurt" also. However, if the given situation does to effect me in any particular way, this will dull the likelihood of me experiencing feelings of "hurt" also. Again, this will depend on the contextual weight of the situation.
If, or when, you cry, the prospect of my joining with you in that would be extremely near to impossible. Once again, it depends entirely on the contextual weight of the given plight.
If, or when, you jump off a bridge, kindly include me in your will before doing so. I would greatly appreciate it. Moreover, I would feel bonafide sadness on your behalf.
Tell me your thoughts if you feel the obligation to do so.

That immediately caught my attention and, considering the relatively careful wording of the rest of your post, I can only conclude that it is a subtle but still funny ironic joke so thanks for that, it put a smile on my face.
Empathy: the Human ability to tune into, appreciate and even feel what others are feeling. This is one of the unique traits that makes us human and without it we are greatly diminished and it becomes much more difficult to be friends to others as, more often than not, our empathy is frequently required in intimate (close friend / best friend) relationships.
Seems fair. From what I heard with your distant cousin it would surprise me if you had an internet friend you would hurt for or cry for.
