    Never A Dull Moment

Thank you all for helping me out back in May  The support means the world to me, and thanks to your kind contributions I was able to go and visit my boy in Britain. I'll try and mock up a proper recap blog—though I am notoriously terrible at doing those, I don't think I've ever managed a proper recap blog for any of the various conventions I've gone to over the years. I guess there was

Subtle Incest Undertones [Kind of SPOILERS] · 1:30am Oct 27th, 2015

Pinkie: MARBLE! You want to wish Big Mac a good Hearth's Warming, don't you?
[Marble nods]
Pinkie: And Big Mac, you want to too, don't you?
Big Mac: Eeyup!
Pinkie: Alright, you crazy kids... [slides on "Careless Whisper" and extracts a jumbo-sized package of condoms from somewhere in her mane]
Pinkie: Hm... [looks up and down over Big Mac and throws the condoms away pulling out a trash bag instead] There we go! Have fun, you two~

This episode was really just straight down the line. Overall, an alright episode. In such a fantastic season as this, that's not the best news.

First, the good stuff: The Pie family finally gets more definition! This was something I've been looking forward to, as there's been a lot of fan speculation (especially after Maud's first episode). The rock farm gets expanded upon more, and having them be actual miners was something that a lot of people were expecting, myself included. Inkie Marble was adorable, and the fact that she and Pinkie are twins is pretty significant.

Also, The Apples are shown to mesh together as a family almost flawlessly, which is always good to see (especially since ApplePie episodes don't always have that going for them). Apple Bloom's CM was still throwing me for a loop, but I think after this coming episode, things will be more or less normal regarding that. Big Mac's back to his old ways in terms of voice (which I think may lend validity to one of Trick Question's fics).

Now, the "meh" stuff (since none of it was really "bad"): First off, Christmas Hearthswarming episode before Halloween? Hasbro, you straight up trippin'. Although, since there are only five more weeks of episodes left, I think this might be because the season doesn't run over Christmas this time around. It might have been wiser to to make this episode not Christmas Hearthswarming related because that really grated on me. Hell, maybe even waiting until season 6 so it could air in the appropriate environment would have been a better choice.

Also, Limestone a bitch. Seriously, her voice made me gnash my teeth and every single time she interacted with anyone she was an asshole. Some says she had redeeming qualities; I didn't see any of them.

The Pie parent's speech was really bizarre, and I couldn't find any discernible reason as to why they spoke that way, especially considering that none of their four children spoke like them. It was awkward and it seemed really forced as a way to illustrate them as "old fashioned".

The choosing stone was pretty funny, though.

Alright episode. Poor timing and some odd decisions made it, ultimately, nothing to write home about.

I'm happy I'm not the only one who feels that way!

3499270 >the whole pie family is different levels of autistic
holy shit

I actually did enjoy the episode but they really should have arranged the episodes around better and put this after the Nightmare Night one. As for Marble and Mac, well even if there related it is such a hugely distantly related difference that it shouldn't even matter.

3499401 it still matters for muh fetish

3499410 Different folks, but there is enough distance that is really isn't squick territory. Now maybe if big Mac made himself a herd with Fluttershy, Cheerilee, and Marble that might be fun. Especially if he was buying his mares sexy outfits from Rarity's...

Also, Limestone a bitch.

You say this like it's a bad thing. :V

3499428 in what way is being a bitch a good thing

I have not seen this episode yet.

I cant wait. :unsuresweetie:

I wish I could say the incest subtext was edgy, but considering how distantly connected the two families are as blood relatives it doesn't really make much of a difference. :unsuresweetie:

I think if there was one thing that really bugged me the whole episode it was the fact that the Pie family is expanded upon, true, but none of these individual characters are given any dimension. Absolutely nothing about Maud has changed or been elaborated on since the last time we saw her, she's still all about the rocks and really stoic and that's all there is to her. Marble is cute and shy, but that's all that we're given about her character. She's basically Fluttershy, but again she lacks dimensions. And Limestone, oh Jesus... I'm well aware that a lot of bronies are incredibly shallow, but I still don't get why she's developing a following already. She's a gaping cunt, but because she showed one brief moment of not being a gaping cunt we're expected to like her. Not falling for that. :trixieshiftleft:

On an end note, I'm pretty sure the Pie parents are supposed to be traditional Quakers, but like you said it makes no sense that none of their kids seem to take after them. It makes the Apple offspring having southern accents all the more nonsensical, and raises more questions than it answers regarding the Pie family. :pinkiesick:

So, uh...

And Limestone, oh Jesus... I'm well aware that a lot of bronies are incredibly shallow, but I still don't get why she's developing a following already.

When this site is crawling with incredibly popular groups who find the destruction of people's creative enjoyment and the attacks of authors who write things out of the norm highly amusing and indeed, make a hobby out of doing so, do you really find this to be surprising?

3499706 Have I ever told you that I function as the optimist in my circle of friends? :fluttershbad:

I think, though, that there is a difference between the people in those groups that you mentioned and Limestone. The groups are essentially clubs for hormone-ridden sado-masochists who can act as as decent folks when the time's convenient. Limestone on the other hand is... extremely unpleasant to be around for the sake of itself, which is what we might call being autistic. :facehoof:

All the Pie siblings seem to suffer from varying degrees of autism, actually. I think there's a joke about hyper-religious people giving birth to retarded children in here. :rainbowderp:

3499725 I was actually saying that people liked Limestone because she was an abrasive cunt, much like those who populate aforementioned groups.

3499769 Ugh, I'm so stupid sometimes. :ajsleepy:

3499809 Everyone makes mistakes, mane. Also, I think the Pies are less retarded and more socially maladjusted. I'd bet that Trixie was the first pony outside their family that they'd have seen for a looong time.

where did you learn how to shitpost debate?

I think the archaic speech patterns were more of a "they're Pony Amish!" kind of thing.

3504102 it was super awkward. Like, incredibly awkward. I feel like the voice actors were not super into it when they were speaking because it sounded rigid and choppy when they were talking.
