If you thought it was an original song, then look what Charmx, who I am subscribed to, just reacted to not so long ago...
Now, the person who made the Sonata version COULD have gotten permission to use the original song, I've not checked, but still...the next time you see another MLP video get loads of views, look a little deeper and see if the video is really all of their work.
Also, what the hell is this thing with Sonata and tacos anyway? I have never watched the Equestria Girls movies except the first one - and that was only bits of it because it was in a review by MysteriousMrEnter - so I guess there's something in those movies that explains it or whatever? Anyway, you all probably knew this already but I'm bringing this up still because I didn't know and so its news to me.

LOL. To be honest, I watched the MLP one before you posted it, and I thought it was at least kinda funny. (Being honest, though, I liked your Japanese Pony animation and song better, LOL.) But then I watched the second video, and any and all appreciation for it just left... I assumed that the song in the MLP video was an original composition at first.
Now, I myself have made videos with songs that I didn't compose, so I'm not mad about it or anything; the creator probably saw the movie, and thought of the song as an oppertunity.
So, yeah, I'm not upset or anything, it just really took me by surprise, is all.

I believe that as long as respect, permission, and a mentioning of the original creator is given in stuff like this, then it's okay. I've done it a number of times before, usually because I can't play instruments nor do I know many people who would willing make music or sing songs for my animations. And if you've seen the quality of animation I make it's understandable why they wouldn't. XD
But regardless, as I said, I just saw Charmx's reaction to the original version, and I realized where I heard this song before. The MLP version is more animated and detailed, no doubt, but if I did have to nitpick at all, then I'd have to say the MLP version COULD have maybe slightly altered the song a teensy bit instead of outright using the same audio.
Or maybe they did and I'm just not hearing the difference. Unlike the more well-funded animating YouTubers out there I don't have the very best headphones to really notice the difference properly. XD
All I have to say is yes.
I remember my friend Quartz_Gungrave showing me the MLP one. Never knew there was an original song, but it makes sense.
