    Stories I Almost Wrote, #8

And here's the second one I haven't touched in years. Rest in peace, Love Biting.

    Notes/discarded scenes!

    Stories I Almost Wrote, #7

It's been over three years since I even thought about updating this, so I might as well bury it. Rest in peace, Royally Ruffled Feathers.

First, the notes. They're as jumbled and out of order as usual, but I tried to tidy up at least a little bit.

    Bubble, Bubble...

Hello again! Remember the span of months in which Sucker For A Cute Face inadvertently produced spin-off clopfics and one bonus chapter? Well, now there's a side story set about three months after the main one, which you can read Here!

Stories I'll (Probably) Never Write, #8!

Been a while since one of these, huh? Over a year since the last plot bunny dump, two years since the last of the type detailing a story I never really tried to write in earnest. I'm not sure why I'm keeping track of that.

D'oh, Ah dun it ageen. · 3:20pm Aug 31st, 2015

A while back, I posted two(ish) long, long chapters for SFaCF within a short time span. This was because I wanted to get the chapter(s) from Adagio's POV done by a certain point, so I spent most of my waking hours writing for about a week straight. Now I find myself doing something similar because there's another point in the story I just want to get published already, but I'm not quite there yet. This is in addition to working on some other stories and the much more important classes that now demand my attention.

Writing, writing, writing wasn't a great idea the first time, so here's a blog post to explain that while I'm going to post something by this Saturday as normal (with two-week update plan), the rest up to the scene I've been going for will be published whenever it's done, then go back to the two-week thing. I'll try to chop things up into more digestible pieces this time. In addition, I hope to be publishing an entirely new, much shorter story within the next week or so. Maybe.

Horsewords inbound!

You know, I was just thinking to myself, "I need more DagiShy in my life." Lo and behold, the great Eyeswirl does not disappoint!

Well, I mean, I'm technically disappointed that I don't get any right now, but you know me: I'm a sucker for a cute face. :raritywink:

Godspeed.

EG3 Preview:
No sign of sirens other than a crude poster thing with a wrong colored Adagio – the hope is dead :ajsleepy:

I'm glad to know when the next chapter will come out. Admittedly, I am still on the phase of looking for an update every weekend for this story, but, well, that just shows how good it is. :pinkiehappy:

Write the chapters as you can, and don't burn yourself out. I'd rather this take a few weeks to see each chapter than you get tired and stop writing it all together.

I saw that preview, and had to repress my urge to spew bile at the notion that the school overcame anything "together." Like this: What little good the student body did in EQG1, Sunset rendered moot by stealing the crown and almost immediately making them her slaves. In RR, they were actively detrimental to stopping the magical evil the entire goddamn time with the exception of the required Deus Ex Machina character. That they saw those events as "The school succeeding together" or whatever as opposed to "We needed magical outsiders to bail us out from the OTHER magical outsiders both times" made me shake my head in disgust and say "Do any of these people even remember what happened?!"

So I'm not exactly sympathizing with Canterlot High a lot these days. Any bets that the Shadowbolts secret to always winning these events just so happens to be magic as well?

Anyway, I intend to type up the first chapter of my own AU idea of Friendship Games including the Dazzlings (and maybe a less conceited CHS) and, if they don't appear at all in the movie (or if they do and it's rubbish) or aren't at least established to be in a better place now, will publish it as soon as I've seen the movie myself, picking up with the rest whenever there's time.

Wait... Do they mean "the school" or "the Rainbooms"? Because I guess you could argue the latter did, once magical outsiders helped them get their act together.

3361897
The Rainbooms at least stood next to Twilight to activate her spells, (friendship magic and all) and as she probably couldn't have done anything without them, I don't have a problem with saying that the five human girls (and Sunset) helped both times, but the student body as a whole? Useless, and the lot of them being considered part of the victories seems somewhere between disingenuous and a bad joke, as I really hope someone in Friendship Games points out.

3362307
That's why I was asking if maybe the trailer meant more 'the heroes of the school' and less 'the whole school'. The only other way that could make sense was if they were saying they should stand together, learning from their past mistakes.

If they are taking credit as a group after standing around uselessly, that's some Protomen Act One level crowd mentality.
"They'll watch you die to save their lives. They will not stand here by your side."
Was the intent to make us dislike the people our protagonists are fighting for?

Note: Video may make more sense if you just go through the full album.

Rainbow's lyrics when the song starts are what caught my attention, referring to the Wondercolts (as with Twilight's cafeteria song in EQG1) as a whole.

"We've fought magic more than once and come out on top"

"We're not the school we were before, yea, we're different now. We overcame the obstacles we faced." *Demon Sunset and the sirens' true forms in the background, no reaction shown by Sunset while this happens.*

Watching it again, I think I see what you mean. The way it's worded, maybe she's manipulating the crowd on purpose (which, as ever, may be pointed out as ethically questionable, may just be okay when the 'good guys' do it, like mind control with Twilight's reforming spell) by acting as though anyone but Vinyl did anything noteworthy to bolster morale? That may be considered a good cause, but it still feels less than honest. I don't know, I've been annoyed with CHS as a whole for a while now, so maybe I just have the opposite of rose-colored glasses for anything they do. Their little "No, really, we totally get the Magic of Friendship" shtick just doesn't sit well with me when they didn't show a shred of it to Sunset until after she helped save their hides. "We're different now," says Rainbow, but time will tell.

3364312
I wasn't suggesting Rainbow was deliberately manipulating them, though now that you mention it, I wouldn't put it past her to bend the truth to get a crowd worked up for a sporting event, especially one she was competing in. I was just picturing her looking at the crowd and going "We (meaning her and her friends)" and basically considering them the whole school worth mentioning.

The parallel with the Protomen is that there, the mob mentality extends to following heroes and watching them fight but not doing anything to support them, while claiming to support them, and it leads to the failure of revolution.

3361113
Dunno why, but I enjoy reading your rants. Just saying.

3367058
Good to hear, I guess! I try to keep my ranting to a minimum, or at least inject it into a story in the form of dialogue, as with A Chill In The Air.

I used to worry a little that the most realistic voices I could use for these thoughts seemed to be from the mouths of bad/former bad guys. However, as our heroes seem to be losing that image for me a little more all the time, it doesn't bother me as much these days. Is it weird that I have the exact same problem with the Wonderbolts (Rainbow's dream team), who are only ever depicted as incompetent and possibly a little corrupt until someone snaps at them to get their act together?

Come to think of it, Princess Celestia has a whole, long, laundry list of failures to adequately deal with problems so that they don't come back a thousand years later. Quite the theme of falling idols we've got going here...

3367079
I'm afraid that these concerns are falling straight into "Kids are not supposed to think about those things, so at the very best we might adress them in comicbooks, you're not getting more than that" category, at least for FiM. When it comes to EG, right now we are at the breaking point - the movie will either get the bold approach and will adress some of the issues in more adult way, or will just ignore them complitely, going for the FiM route.

Funny how because of your stories, I now have very little faith in the whole EG franchise - there are just too many things to cover and too few movies (whose primary function is to advertise dolls), so most likely they will just skip that.

3367173 Probably so, but for all the sketchy behavior and unfortunate implications that pop up, due to merchandise priorities or not, we'll always have fanfiction. :pinkiehappy:

Damn, dude... surgar rush this morning, I see. ;)
And I'm lovin' it. Hope to give all 3 a read today.
