The Faith of "WKMH" (If you are tracking the story in any way, please read this! It's very serious and important!) · 12:19am Jul 11th, 2015
Hey everyone,
So I just got some news today that may impact the rest of the story. Though it's still too early to tell, I really doubt it would be much good for myself. But while I was at work today, I took my twenty minute break. Wanting to do some web surfing, I pulled out my phone, brought up Equestria Daily, then saw this in an announcement from Sand Diego Comic Con:
*Here's where Dramacolt goes Berserk*
You get the idea.
While I really don't know how this will turn out, I already know that this is going to have a serious impact on what I've already written. I don't believe this! Two years of writing this story, and now it's all going to go to shit! It was very hard for me to stay calm for the rest of my shift after reading this. Now I'm at a point where I really don't know what to do.
I was never lying to anyone or myself whenever I said I wanted to finish this story. I've put too much hard work, thought, and power into all of this for it all to crash and burn. This story means an awful lot to me, and I'm amazed at how much of an audience I've gained over time. You all deserve so much for being patient with me and helping me support my characters and story.
While my heart is telling me to see it all the way through, I just have a feeling that it won't gather the same momentum after Fluttershy's cannon brother is introduced. I know there's the solution to give it the "alternate universe" tag, but I still don't feel like people will want to read it anymore. I dreaded this situation so much, but prayed that it would never come true. I just wish my own life wasn't so depressing, and I wasn't so fucking sensitive about what people think all the time, so I could have finished all of this sooner.
So what does everyone think I should do? Should I follow my heart and continue pressing on with the AU tag, despite what the show says about Fluttershy's family? Should I put it on Hiatus—yet again—and start all over with the cannon portrayal? Or should I just cap it all like Old Yeller?
This is a damned good story that you should be proud of no matter what happens in canon. I know at least I will continue to read it should you continue, as I am sure many others will as well.
Well, you wrote it before the show did anything that would screw with it, only a complete asshole/idiot would give you shit for pushing on.
Although if you're worried about it then just slap that AU tag on there and call it a day.
I guess all that's left for you to do now is hurl a cease-and-desist letter at Hasbro/DHX. Hasbro/DHX stole your idea, they should be punished for it because stealing is against the law.
It's your story, so write it how you want to. If you're really worried then put the AU tag on, but most people let stories pass without the tag if canon crushes it because you had no way of knowing what's to come. This is fanfiction; it doesn't have to stay completely true to the source material unless you want it to. Just try to relax and write what makes you happy, and it will work out.
You should continue anyway with the AU tag. If people don't like it then let them leave. It'll still be a good story no matter what
Stick with it. Every fic writer has to deal with the fact that their fic may one day clash with canon. The world you write doesn't have to match the show
Just say it was written before Season 6, or just an AU
You should most definitely continue with the story! All FIMFiction writers have to deal with the fact that their story may one day clash with canon, but that doesn't take away from the story, or discourage people from reading it. Hell, most Discord stories written pre-Keep Calm and Flutter On clash with canon, and people still read and enjoy those stories. You can put the "Alternate Universe" tag on it if you feel it necessary, and it won't stop people from wanting to read it just because it's "not canon" . In fact, most people CHOOSE to read AU stories BECAUSE they don't match with canon; they want to see what creative ideas and "what could've been/what if" situations and scenarios people come up with. Creating new and interesting ideas to write about these characters and this world is the whole appeal of writing a Fan FICTION . And honestly, if people are going to give you crap and flame your story because "Hurr-duur Shy Pony haz brother and hez not liek diz so itz NOT CANON! DISLIKE! UNSUBSCRIBBLE!", then they're not the kind of people who appreciate fan works, and not the kind of people who you want reading your story anyways, and therefore, not worth your time.
So I highly encourage you to continue writing your wonderful story, not just because I and several others have fallen in love with this character you've created, but because it's obvious that you have too, and you said it yourself that your heart wants you to keep going. One of my favourite lines from one of my all time favourite movies is "Do what you love, and fuck the rest." It's a motto that I try to live by everyday, and I think you should too.
