The Best of All Possible Worlds: Letter #1 from the Author · 3:09am Aug 13th, 2012
OOC:
Well, here’s another chapter, and below are some more in-character ramblings.
IC:
Hi, this is the translator of this story again. I just got the following message from the anonymous author of this story:
For those of you unfamiliar with Equine, here is my translation:
Dear Human McPoodle,
It has come to my attention that you have begun publishing your translation of my article, entitled “The Best of All Possible Worlds”, on the FIMFiction.net website.
I wish you hadn’t done that.
For one thing, the name of the website clearly includes the word “fiction”. “The Best of All Possible Worlds” is not fiction. Every event described actually happened, two hundred and fifty years ago. In addition, that site is known for printing some frankly outrageous material.
I mean, a golem. Really? Really?
...Nevertheless, what’s done is done. I have been examining the work you have posted this far, translating back into Equine by hoof, and here’s what I think of the Introduction and Chapter 1. I have organized my points into a list, for your convenience:
1. That illustration--I don’t get it. A watch, and the Princess, and...space? This had better not be one of those TF2 references that keeps going over my head.
2. The quote at the beginning. You do know that Discord does not appear in this article, right?
3. The whole Introduction. It’s not necessary. You’re re-phrasing an account I included in our correspondence. It is not a suitable introduction to a scholarly historical article. What happened to the 260-page introduction I sent you?
4. Chapter 1 is by and large what I sent you, although the tone is a bit light-hearted for my taste. Except for the ending. You’re mixing dangerous foreboding with my Princess. Stop it.
Hmm...I expected there to be more points when I started. Oh well, I’ll just continue the list with future chapters.
Answer me using the fastest means available to you.
Your annoyed author,
Anonymous AuthorP.S. Is it just me, or did something happen to Chapter 1? It’s like it completely changed when I wasn’t looking...
It just so happens that the fastest means I have available to answer you is this blog.
I was just asked to answer the points on the list, so I’ll stick with that:
1. Please look up the human philosophy of Deism, and specifically, the concept of the “Celestial Watchmaker”.
2. Voltaire actually wrote that a mere month before the events of this story began. And you’ll have to admit that what’s about to happen fits the lower-case “d” definition of discord.
3.That Introduction was you at your best! I couldn‘t possibly deprive readers of that eloquence! Oh, and your introduction...got eaten by Space Weasels. Yes, a sad fact of life on Earth, having your homework introductions eaten by Space Weasels...
4. I thought that was a quite close translation, actually. As for the foreboding, I wonder if you’ve considered this story from the Princess’ point of view. You might be surprised where that point of view takes you.
I eagerly await your further comments.
--McPoodle
Oh, and I have no idea what you're talking about.
Oh Anonymous Author, why so serious?
