Is it too silly? · 6:36pm Apr 13th, 2015
I don't want to sound negative, but this story has been getting sillier as the chapters go on, not the "haha that's silly" Kind, but the, "That's just ridiculous" Kind of silly.
It has gotten to the point where Discord seems completely normal compared to the story. This is not a good thing, so off the tracking list you go.
You know, I've read stories that have gone too far with a concept. Whether it be speciesm, bashing, 'episode fixing', etc. Of course, those concepts usually turn me off no matter how much they're done, unless it's pulled off really well. {The first one, the other two...no.}
Of course, comedy can be done wrongly as well.
When i started this story, I did it to do something to help me get into the writing spirit to continue my A Different Sunset story, something I wanted to really work and be enjoyable. Love Needs No Reason was supposed to be a little funny story I wrote because, well, I enjoyed writing it. I still do. I love each and every character and I do my damnedest to do them well and give them the respect they deserve.
Did I fail? I......I know a lot of you love this story. I never thought it would be possible for me to write a story so well loved. It makes me feel good to make you guys and gals smile, but did I go wrong? Am I pushing the ridiculousness too far? I'm sorry I'm bringing this up. It's just one guy's opinion and it isn't even that harsh, but.......
I just wanted to hear it from the rest of you. Do you still like this story, or do I need to change it up?
Normally I'm not fan of ridiculousness but you mostly pulled this off. I really enjoyed Cadance personality and her relation with Chrysallis. What I don't enjoy is :
1. Mentioning of other powerful beings from other franchises
2. Everybody is related to everybody syndrome (Derpy was really too much)
3. Too many characters just going with Discord antics (especially RD)
still I would not say I stopped enjoying this story. I just enjoy it less. I think it got worse around the race part. It can still get better. Just focus more on main characters.
2980608 That is my bad really. That chase was pretty much the only reason why I made that arc and....well......Yeah, perhaps I should be less inclined to listen to certain complaints.
Truth be told, I was rather upset about giving it up.
2980622 nah it seems okay it is a comedy after all
I for one, love the silliness!
To be honest it started strong but I stopped reading maybe two chapters ago, got too silly
I like the silliness because it's kind of Discord's thing, but I do appreciate how in the last chapter or two it seems like the story has gotten back on track, focusing on the romance between AJ and Discord.
Honestly, I love when stories go off the deep end with ridiculousness. With me, the more crazy, the more I love it. So, yeah. You could never lose me with making the story ridiculous and crazy and insane. Just keep on keepin' on with what you're doing.

Well, for all intents and purposes, the story is coming to a close. I already have it planned well enough and while there is going to be one more side arc, it's going to be much more plot related than really 'zany'.
I apologize to those are bothered. A lot of these zany concepts I wrote were because I'm honestly having fun with it all. This has got to be my favorite story because it's just so fun to write it and, well, I tried to transfer that humor over to others. Which doesn't always work, since I acknowledge that some jokes and concepts don't work for everyone. That's my bad.
I'm honestly a few chapters behind, but that's out of laziness rather than any ill will. I like what you've done so far, and the fact is, you can't please everybody anymore than I can. I understand how you feel, though; negative comments hurt, no matter how quickly you brush it off, and you can't help but feel like you went wrong somewhere for a moment. But remember that more people like it than hate it, and you keep doing it because it's YOUR fic; YOU decide what happens in the end, and it's up to other readers to decide for themselves whether or not they like it. Write, first and foremost, for YOURSELF; that's the key to enjoying what you do.
Sorry for going all sage mode there; keep up the good work, and don't let the haters get to you.
2981962 It's great to have fun with your work! While I find nothing wrong with zany stories, I think the fact that this started out much less zany is what made people upset. The change was pretty surprising.
I think the best thing to do Is keep zany zany, from start to finish. Have fun, go wild! But, don't give the illusion of something serious. That way, people can't complain about a story being to silly, because it was always like that. Don't let this discourage you from writing what you like! I quite enjoyed what you have been doing. I think you could make a great silly story simply about big sis Chrysalis and and little bro Discord. Their relationship sounds like it word be a hoot to read about! But, of course, it's up to you.

Yes! Apologize to us for bringing us free entertainment that is not 100% perfect. Seriously no author should apologize for his work especially when he asks for nothing in return. And it is still in my "favorites", not "tracking".
I can empathize with having a story change over time and meeting with negative reception for it.
As much as positive comments are sweet, sweet nectar, if everyone wrote for those alone we'd have nothing on this site but mane 6, Luna, and OctoScratch shipfics.
I guess that's part of the reason I myself am okay with the silliness. It makes this fic different from "Cute Comedy Shipfic #348762237" and into its own little niche.
But even if I did not feel this way: You must write what you want to write. Bad comments suck, but they just boil down to "in my opinion, you should not have done this." That is no more valid an opinion than the people who do like it, and it is absolute nothing compared to *yours.* You must write what you want, because nobody's getting paid here, and you're under no obligation to appease the handful of people who make their displeasure known.
