testral land seems to be the closest to doom latveria personally testral sounds better since the whole dark thing
Thestral or Siren would be my first picks, second would be deer or griffin and Zebra. But that's from a "if I was in this situation" point of view
I would suggest the Siren Isles, because that would suit Doom's needs the most. If he could study the sirens and find out how to mimic their powerful vocal magics, then laying waste to his enemies would be easy.
That said, it would also be a rather intelligent decision for it's defensible position, as well as a constant source of nearby food (if Doom needs food, why not go fishing? He's got to have some idea how to collect tons of fish easily).
Sure, land would be a premium concern, but if it's a volcanic isle, then geothermal energy would be easily obtainable, and not to mention the fertile soils of volcanic land.
2911617 That would be rather true in this respect, also they have been rather alienated over a long period of time without their moon goddess until recently but there are plenty of 'issues' there.
2912181 They are interesting choices as each likely has a different culture and 'settings' for how things are running there, the griffins likely the most known and most aggressive with the deer choice as second territorially, the sirens likely have some stigma as well. Though thou would wonder zecora's opinion on invading her homelands.
2912536 The sirens are likely THE least known about, though their race has a stigma by others due to rumors, stories or flat out false information that paint them in a bad light. As strangely for example there are no male sirens? Makes such a tale rather curious to learn about though a siren is born no matter the 'partner', even beasts.
2912657 on my opinion the testrals are still the best choice, as you said there are several issues which doom pretty sure can capitalize on in order to obtain influence over then, there is also the issue of they being alienated from pony society during luna exile, and still being alienated after her return since other than those on the lunar guard there are almost no testrals on equestria. with doom being an alien himself can use it in order to earn further influence among them
the sirens are a big unknown and the same reasons that make them good for defense make it hard to be reached without a large investment of both time and equipment
2912850 True in many ways, but on a larger scale what would thou think the 'world' or mainly equestria would react to some unknown being taking over the Thestrals 'new' homeland and becoming their leader? For there may be quite the political and panic by most, also it had been visited first by Luna upon her return. Having a alicorn still recently returned, denied her generations of loyal ponies would hurt her personally. Which would affect how her older sister would react also once shock fell to the side.
Each species is known about to one degree or another, be that as intimate, knowledgeable, uninformed but guessing, to rumor mills and the ever rare not at all. All of which is dependent upon perspective of any one side, a example could use griffins, aggressive and omnivores by nature, doom may not have wings like they do but if he ate with them and wasn't disturbed in the slightest they could respect that or be more open to him. Though dueling or fighting aside that would be smooth as for interaction, besides chances of negative encounters. While his 'diet' would give him scorn or negative reactions from most others.
Though for Thestrals if he discovered a certain percentage of the population were born as 'vamponies' due to former nightmare moon magic by bloodlines that would more likely scare non thestrals. Angles and Information often are keys, but even this discussion here wouldn't be clear cut or foretelling much.
