The Devil's Trick Quality Youtube Reading (Also, go see Birdman) · 1:07pm Mar 9th, 2015
Earlier today, I almost posted some long sappy blog about my artistic struggles, but thought better of it. Instead, here's a pretty great reading of The Devil's Trick read by Scribbler and co.
On an unrelated note, I recently saw Birdman, the movie that won best picture this year. Boy that struck a chord. Recently I've been weighing my more recent stories' relatively low popularity and questioning the direction my writing has been headed. In one bout of angst I even seriously considered dumbing down my writing for the sake of making it more appealing. Birdman opened my eyes and taught me two things:
1.) holy shit I need to work on dialogue. If I ever write dialogue half as good as that movie's, I can die happy.
2.) Mike Shiner was right when he says, "Popularity is the slutty little cousin of prestige."
Something I've noticed is that after all this time roughly half of all the library additions that come trickling in are for Equestria from Dust. None of the reader feedback on my other stories has been close to as satisfying as that one. With Darkquestria's first arc finished and sent off to EqD, I have to wonder if I'll ever write something that triggers that kind of response again. I hope Darkquestria will.
Congrats!
Haven't read your other stories, but The Devil's Trick is sweet. It's been featured on my userpage for months, and I have no intention of taking it down. Glad to see it's gotten the honor of a live reading.
