An impossible crime? · 5:31pm Jan 14th, 2015

Exams almost over, thank god... just got one left.

But anyway, I'm taking a short break from revisions to explain one of my upcoming stories: my newest murder mystery with the working title 'The Crimsonlamp Case'.

It features a rather brilliant crime (if I may toot my own horn), which gets presented straight away. Still, if you don't want the beginning spoiled for you, you may want to stop reading now.

Still reading? Okay then.

I wanted to explore the idea of an impossible crime. Not an overly complex one, but one that you couldn't feasibly commit.

Here, a serial killer gets rid of his victims whilst leaving behind a small message written in their blood. He leaves no bodies, no evidence he was there, and on multiple occasions has managed to provide strong alibis. However, he's linked to each of his crimes, leaving no doubt in anybody's mind that he is the one behind everything, but with no evidence to condemn him with. A rather pesky scenario.

Think it's impossible? Good. If it were easy, I wouldn't waste my time writing about it.

So that's the crime. Can our detective solve it? Can you guys figure it out before the end of the story? If you can, you get three whole moustaches in the comments. And how can you commit such a difficult and ruthless crime?

Coming soon to a fanfiction website near you. It looks about half finished, I'd say, so probably not that long a wait.

Have any other cool crimes you don't think are possible? Send 'em my way. I love figuring out how to break the law... as a fun and stimulating exercise, of course. Purely academic.

Have a good one!
