So to those who haven't checked out the new story yet, here's the Gilgamesh sequel.
Now, I'd like to ask a favor from you guys. I hope this comes out sounding the way I want it to, because I'm not so great when it comes to expressing my own feelings, be they in written or vocal form.
The first chapter, in less than 24 hours, has received 58 comments. Normally I would be thrilled about that, but unfortunately almost all of them are part of what I can only call a flame war. I'm not even kidding, I think only about 5 to 10 comments are related to the chapter itself. Now, believe me, I'm thrilled that many of you are willing to go to the mat for me, to defend my stupid little dribbles that I write for fun. But guys? I'm just done. I'm so fucking done. I'm tired of seeing a notification that someone commented on the story only for it be part of this back and forth. Guys, this is the internet, and I think we've all been on here long enough to know that this doesn't go anywhere. Though a few of those who made negative comments on the story did them in a polite and thoughtful way, or at the very least changed them to something more well worded, the fact is people are going to write what they want to write. "Haters gonna hate," as it goes, and I would really appreciate it if the comment section doesn't descend into a 4chan message board.
If you guys love my story, if you want to help me churn out something good, don't give in to your desire to try and justify what you like or why you like it. Just like what you like and ignore some of the more hateful comments out there, and having a legitimate discussion with anyone who is willing to have one.
Although maybe this is just me not being thick skinned. I've never put out anything that's gotten the attention that the Epicness series has, as I suppose the more visible you get the more negativity you've got to deal with. Maybe this a just fact of popularity, however little I have, an is just something I have to learn to deal with. I don't know. Like I said this is all new to me. But, and maybe this is my naivety speaking, I'd really like this to be a story where we can all have fun.
And speaking of fun, I'd like to end this on a somewhat lighter note. The avatars of a few of the people who wrote negative comments have some rather interesting titles in their pictures, things like "Premium Faggot." Now there are only three reasons I can think that they are there.
1. They put it there themselves. I personally cannot understand why anyone would do that, but that's just me.
2. Someone else hacked their account and added them. If their account was added I think the hacker wouldn't done more than that, but it is kinda funny.
3. The moderators themselves added it, possibly due to noticing these users caused a lot of problems but didn't break any rules. I know this is incredibly unlikely, but if it is that is absolutely fucking hilarious in my opinion.
Hate to end your light note, but they're most likely alt accounts of common users who are being trolls.
2703985 You know what? That actually makes me feel better. Because, that means that they have to hide behind a different account to say what they want to say instead of just coming forwards and saying it.
Sorry to hear you're having a bad time of it. For what it's worth, a lot of us have had to deal with this flame crap at one point or another, but there are still plenty here who simply enjoy the story for its own sake. I've had one or two of odd cases like your point 1 to deal with myself. Personally, I think some people out there just have issues, an opinion that's backed up when I actually check on some of their sites.
Also, love the idea of your point 3 . That would be so much more epic for moderators to pull something like that than the typical 'cease and desist' equivalent.
4Chan? I think you're blindly optimistic. Youtube comments is a better comparison.
I Apologize for my comments
2704016 Yeah, you're probably right about that.
2704058 Nah, it's fine. I saw how you and Rin actually had a legitimate conversation.
You know I'd like to defend the right to have conversations in comments but having a flame there is rather stupid. I also want to say something on how I've had philosophical debates in a stories comments but that does not pertain to this.
Anyway, I hope it's the moderators and can't wait for your next update, I'm not sure whether to be scared or excited that Mr can beat an army without a single kill now has both a dark tag and mature tag.
Eventually I'll come up with a catch phrase of my very own but until then(as a member of the man of war fanbase) brony on!
I'm sorry to hear you've been getting these bad comments on the first chapter release of the sequel. For some reason it seems to be happening to new stories of remote popularity, whether it's because of the content or author. I remember it happened to SPark on one of his new stories a bit ago (By which the blog about the event was removed for harsh language, which he apologized for later) and who can forget Reality Check and his more recent continuation of the series, Tirek Gets a Righteous Beatdown, which got such a huge backlash and general negative response.
It's just become places to go for trash talk, about the story or other wise. These comments are what I fear, really. They aren't really helping and all it's doing is making people feel bad or mad. Don't worry too much about them though, you've got a fanbase that looks out for ya. And we are happy for this new step forward and appreciate your time and effort spent on these works about Gilgamesh and keeping LoHAV kicking, even if the later isn't your main goal. We got your back dude, stand strong and proud.
