The Sweetie Chronicles and Fanfic Juvenilia · 11:08am Dec 19th, 2014
...So, yes. I'm not dead! And neither, for that matter, is the tale of a certain necromancer and her minion, although sadly it'll be a little while yet before the next chapter is ready; I've not gotten as much writing done, these past months, as I would have liked. It's a-comin', though.
Still, just because I haven't gotten as much writing done as I should like doesn't mean I haven't been writing at all. For many a moon, now, I've been collaborating with the inimitable Wanderer D on a chapter of his fanfic The Sweetie Chronicles, which--for those not in the know--involves Sweetie Belle hopping from one world of fanfiction to another. Some time ago he approached me with the request that Sweetie be permitted to visit the Mendaverse, and since then we've been collaborating on a pair of chapters set therein, a month or so after the events of Mendacity.* The first of these chapters is finally complete, and will, I understand, be going up quite soon; I hope y'all enjoy it!
The second thing of note is...well, as the title says, a bit of fanfic juvenilia. My first fanfic, in fact, written waaaay back in 2008 on a forum that I used to frequent under the moniker "Ronan" (I still visit there every so often, but sadly said forum has been slowly dwindling and dying, as is the way of all things on the internet in time). It's not complete, and quite possibly never will be complete--and it's not nearly as polished as Mendacity or Rise and Fall, so don't go expecting great quality, here. However, I thought it might be of some interest to y'all anyway, if only to give you a chance to see how far I've come (and how far, of course, I've yet to go). The tale's called "Hatchling's Echo," and is a Metroid fanfic retelling the entire Metroid series from the perspective of Ridley, the recurring antagonist in that series of games. For those willing to brave an amateur writer's first foray into anything longer than scattered short stories, then, have at it.
*These chapters, by the by, are within the canon of Mendacity--that is, the events described in this crossover are, at least for now, a canon part of the Mendaverse, and can be safely looked on as being a glimpse into what's going on in Bon Bon and Lyra's lives after Mendacity. There were a few loose ends that I didn't get to properly explore after Mendacity, and I hope to delve into them a bit in these two chapters--and, of course, there is a wedding that will need attending to, as well...
I was thrilled to see where Sweetie had ended up next. I'm actually going to have to catch up on the previous chapter first, but still, very excited.
I read that chapter of The Sweetie Chronicles and it was excellent. I could tell you had a great deal of input from how much original flavor it had.
It's always an honor to write with you my friend.
Its a pleasure to see the fun you did from wanderer's work.
Squee? Squee!
This was an exciting blog post to read. Mendacity is a great story, and I'm very glad I read it. Also, props on both your vocabulary and your lore, not only in TSC but in Mendacity as well. I had to look up a bunch of words in that story, which is great. Hopefully by reading works like this, I can build up my own vocabulary. I also thoroughly enjoyed how you incorporated lore. I had not read much about the fae and fairies, aside from what I learned from Changeling: The Lost. It was nice to have a story that took the familiar and deepened it, showing something different. (By the way, Aldrovanda is one of my favorite characters. I laughed so hard at "Rambo Studchunks or Beefy McMacho" ). Your poem, and the music that went with it, was also really good. Anyway, sorry to ramble, But I'm glad I read Mendacity, and glad that Wanderer D featured it, or I might not have found it.
