I have both, bought Y when it came out and got X for X-mas last year. Y is my Pokedex completion file while X is my battling file (though I did a lot of it on Y).
well, i gave my old copy of Y to my little cousin, but i'll be getting X myself for a Nuzlocke run. have fun with it!
I bought X then later Y, and am a tad here n there playing on Y before I get involved with X or new Saphire.
Chespin sure is a great starter, and I love how early you can put a great complete team together too!
(and how Chespin can just own everyone's face by itself early on while you get your 1st team up, Weedil & a trade for a Bundleby to get a Farfetch'd. 1st town where face Viola, 2nd row of houses up, far left.)
*Chespin, Charazard, Snorlax, Pikachu, Panpour, Butterfree. Snorlax & Char replacing Beedrill & Farfetch'd, who are kept as your 'catcher' team so can spam Wonder Trade for Pokemiles. Recommend route 5 and the forrest.
Is a strong starting lineup that one can put together before even the 2nd gym. Just remember that Theif is a good idea to teach perhaps to Butterfree
(then replaced again with Struggle Bug)
To follow up Sleep Powder with so can steal the Sitris Berry from Snorlax. (might be the only one can get.)
Farfetch'd may with Share EXP on be like lv.20ish, if not quite 30 will be great for catching Snorlax. (my plan)
If nothing else, Im SO HAPPY they fixed the EV training system in X/Y, where can fully train pokemon for FREE from the start of the game while also setting the MAX EVs for a stat at the applicable 252 instead of the useless 255 giving peace of mind while max-training a stat. Also great that its in sets of 12 which divides evenly into 252 21 times, and that 4 divides into 12 and even 3 times which divides into 63 an even 21 times.
So you can count sets of 12 OR 3 out of 21, and it be the same thing! SO much better then pre-Gen6.

Also, if went with Frokie for water I'd recommend for grass maybe a Gogoat since can spamcatch easy on route5 as part of your Pokemiles farming. If went Foko/Feniken and so don't pick Charazard, for grass I'd say go Venasaur since is great grass and Panpour is as good or better than Blastoise for game-use.

No. I've played every generation since the first EXCEPT for Black/White, because when B/W came out I was without a functioning DS. (Or there was some other reason...not sure.) In any case, my old DS broke sometime in 2012, and I only got a new 2DS last week. I'll get Black (and White 2) at some point in the future, along with Omega Red, but for now, I'm good with X. Also, I need to FINISH Diamond...my old save from six years ago is at Victory Road with all Sinnoh Pokemon caught.
