Let's Try This Again · 10:07pm Nov 6th, 2014

First thing: A new Audience of One chapter will be out this weekend, guaranteed.

Second, I have a new story idea that is just begging to be written... so it will be. I'll try not to have it slow down the writing of either Reddux or Audience of One, but the idea is too interesting for me to pass up. I don't think it'll be a long story, either; I'm guessing 40k maximum. A few highlights:

- It will star Vinyl Scratch, whom I've never used as a main character before.
- It will be an HiE... only not. I'll let you ponder that concept.
- Flash Sentry and Princess Luna will both make occasional appearances.
- For you OctaScratch fans: no, Octavia will not be in this.
- For both the FlashLight haters and lovers: Twilight will also not be in this.

I have no idea how long it will take to finish the story, nor do I know if I'll be releasing it in chapters or in one big piece. I'm actually considering not having any editors for this too, as a personal challenge to see how much I've improved since I started on this site. Not confident about that decision, as the story's certain to suffer for it, but we shall see.

Now I have a question. As some of you may know, I have been doing a good deal of reading lately. I recently was asked to write reviews for the entrants of a contest. Now, I don't typically do reviews, but I have long been thinking about writing reviews for my blog on a regular basis. So I agreed and wrote some for the contest. You can find those reviews here, should you feel inclined to read them. I bring all this up so that I can ask: if I was to go writing reviews for the stories I've been reading, would anyone care?

And now, about the title of this blog. In my last blog, I attempted to show off the cover art I commissioned for the No Heroes series. That didn't really pan out, thanks to Photobucket being a pain in the ass. The artist – the awesome Eosphorite – finally uploaded the images to his DA account, though, and thus I can get the pictures up properly. By that time it was too late; most of the people who viewed last week's blog missed out entirely. So, for their sake – and because I am so incredibly happy with the images – I'm sharing them again.

So yeah, here ya go. Bask in the gloriousness. I know I will.

Yay! Another picture of Tazel! I approve! And yet she STILL deserves so much more artwork then that... (I'd do it myself, but I'm a terrible artist)

Wow, dat art.

So from all those caveats you list in the story idea, I am led to believe it will be VinylFlash. :V Yesno?

Only if you're a fairly attractive chick. :scootangel:

The Book III cover art is definitely an awesome depiction of her. I mean really: spot on, Grade-A awesome. I love the art for Books II and III the most.

I prefer to say FlashScratch, but yes, that pairing will be introduced. However, it's not the central topic of the story. It's more like a side-effect of the real topic.

fuuuuuck yes :D

Nope, I've been trying to figure out what this story could, but so far I got nothing. I mean HiE but not? That make no sense at all.

hah, my little deception is a success! :trollestia: No worries, it'll make sense once the story actually comes out.

It had better be!:twilightangry2:

So I just realized: there's a dragon on the cover of book IV! It's not Reddux, at least, it doesn't look like Reddux. And I have never heard you mention this charactor! I'm suddenly intrigued.

And I wouldn't mind seeing reviews, it's always interesting to see what other people think of other works.

Riptide isn't so much a character as it is a presence. Often mentioned, rarely glimpsed... but when it does make itself known, there's not a soul in the entire world who doesn't stand up and take note.

2579558
Riptide . . . you named an all-powerful dragon god "Riptide . . ." :rainbowlaugh:

The first thing to come to my mind was the G.I. Joe, then the superhero, and then the skylanders character. Didn't you ever watch cartoons on Saturday morning!? Because that is like, the most Saturday-morning-cartoony name out there! Might as well have named him, Shore Leave! :rainbowlaugh::rainbowlaugh::rainbowlaugh:

Actually, it's Jörmungandr. And I don't mean it's named that, I mean Riptide is the epic Jörmungandr from Nordic mythology. But due to a variety of reasons you'll just have to read the story to understand, everyone in Equestria calls it Riptide. Its real name is only specified at the very end of Book IV... and really, nobody ever comments on that. :fluttershysad:

Ah. Okay. Well, the full series is on my RiL, so I'll get to it in due time.

I would care if you did reviews. And I like Vinyl Scratch (just finished a story with her as the main POv, actually) so I'll read the story.

Excellent, I have meself three 'go' votes. Now I just need to pick out a story to review. Not sure if I'll be reviewing the one I'm currently reading, but we'll see.

2584216 Is there a certain genre or word count you want to review?

2584229
Oh, no. I'm basically going to be reviewing as I read off my RiL, which is already pretty dang long. What I'll be reading has nothing to do with what's popular or a specific genre, but will instead simply be what catches my eye.

Of course, I would consider requests.

2584234 Ah, okay. Makes sense.

Quick question: What are your thoughts on crossovers? :trixieshiftright:

Generally ill advised, because most people can't pull them off properly. But there are always exceptions. I tend to avoid reading them because I don't expect them to be that good, but if one comes highly recommended by a friend I trust...

I myself am strongly considering writing a crossover for either Silent Hill or Final Fantasy. I'm leaning Silent Hill ATM.

I can respect that, and though we just barely met, I'll list a few that caught my attention:

Tiberian Eclipse C&C and MLP.

Stardust XCOM and MLP. There are also a number of sequels. Broken has lots of feels. :fluttercry:

Personally I believe Stardust (and Sequels) is better written than Tiberian Eclipse, but I found both rather entertaining.

If you feel like it, have a look at these. After reading the reviews you linked to up there, I would also be interested in reading any more you may wright. (On these and/or other stories)

I don't know XCOM, but I'll add it to my RiL. I do know C&C, but only vaguely; given the overall silly nature of the game, I honestly don't have high expectations (silly isn't my thing), but I'll add it to my 'Incompletes' bookshelf.

Rule #1: I always read stories in my RiL in the order they were added. No exceptions. I currently have around 150 stories in there, so it'll be a while before I get to these two.

Rule #2: I never read a story that isn't complete, because I don't want to wait five months for an update that may never come. I track the incompletes in my bookshelf and throw them into my RiL the moment they're completed. Exception: compendiums or story types that likely will keep going forever, or close to it, due to the nature of the story itself.

Rule #3: I only read during my work breaks. Time at home is better spent writing.

Point is, I'll get to reading these stories eventually, but it may be a long while.

2642148 No rush.

Glad you're considering them. Happy reading!
