    State of the Unicorn: Poor

That's poor in both senses, I'm afraid! Though before I say any more, I need to stress that I have a warm, safe home, enough to eat, internet access... the essentials, really. I am not in danger of losing those. However, I won't be doing much beyond those essentials for a while. Without going into boring details, I will very shortly be going in for dental work to be done. Which, as

    Happy Hearth's Warming Eve!

I keep my online activity to an absolute minimum on Christmas Day, so I'll take this opportunity to wish all of you reading this a Merry Christmas!¹ However life has treated you over the past year, I hope it treats you better over the next. I shall be back to reading Fimfiction on Boxing Day!

    So then, Doctor Who

Loved it! A few little quibbles, not all the acting from the newcomers was stellar and sadly parts of the gender-related stuff felt awkward and forced, eg "something a male-presenting Time Lord wouldn't understand", but I liked much more than I didn't. Plus one of my worries about the new Disney-cash-infused Who has been dispelled: this definitely did

    Bloody Covid

Fortunately not in the literal sense! But yeah, I'm currently stuck at home, yet not feeling well enough to concentrate on ponyfic. It's a seriously annoying combination. :pinkiesick:

    UK PonyCon report

This is inelegantly copy/pasted over from the (slightly) nicer looking report over on Louder Yay. Of course, I'm sure you all read Louder Yay anyway because you're such great people, but just in case here's the report here as well...

If you download any of my fics... · 2:59pm Oct 20th, 2014

...please don't use the EPUB option. It's currently broken, in that italics (and other styles, but italics most crucially) are stripped out. That makes parts of some of my stories quite hard to follow, and occasionally outright changes the meaning. HTML downloads do preserve italics, so use that option instead. (You can convert HTML to EPUB in Calibre if you have that.) Hopefully this site will fix its broken EPUB service soon, but as of now I don't recommend using it.

This is why I release PDFs. :rainbowwild:

2545528 Which is very nice, but I do most of my reading on a Nook Simple Touch e-reader (which has horrible PDF support) and Moon+ Reader on my phone (which has no PDF support at all) so it's not terribly useful to me -- whereas the old, non-broken EPUB was very useful!

(Plus, because of my bad eyesight, it's vital for me to be able to change fonts to what I want, not what the author wanted. :P)

Thanks for that warning. I didn't realise that had happened, presumabely only very recently. I've got Calibre installed, so I'll make sure to use that to do the converting. :pinkiehappy:

2547133 Excellent! :yay: If you want to check whether it's worked, my story By the Seashore has the first line “For Pete’s sake, Fluttershy, do we really have to go see Harry again?” -- "have" and "again" should be italicised.

(It's a shame that the Nook Simple Touch can't read HTML files, otherwise this wouldn't be so much of a problem. :P )

2548090 Okay, I've just tried that one through Calibre, and it worked perfectly. It managed to convert the italics in that first paragraph with no problems, and I noticed there was another line with italics not too far below, which had also worked okay. So it looks like that's going to have to be the solution, unless they can fix the ePub problem. :rainbowhuh:
