Well, it finally happened. Deception is Magic now has over 1000 favorites! Who knew that a story idea I wrote three chapters of on a whim and submitted before going to do a bit of construction work one night would get this popular? I still remember when I woke up to the phone ringing the next day and heard my friend tell me it hit the top of the featured list. I was in shock!
I think it's time I be completely honest with all of you. This story hasn't taken the original track that it was going to take when I started it. To be perfectly honest I was only planning to do a short alternate take on the wedding where the Mane 6 are changeling spies and take over. The End. But that idea was boring! How long would a story like that be? 3000 words? 4000 words tops? So the idea for the story had radically changed before I even submitted it.
Given how the story had played out thus far I admit I'm not entirely clear on how it's going to end. There are reasons for the invasion that will be explained soon (I promise no more carrot on a stick routine), though I truly have to wonder if the citizens of Equestria will find it justifiable. Assuming they can be convinced to listen when everything is over with will they decide the ends justify the means? I'm a little tempted to let the readers decide that.
Either way if the explanation sparks any kind of debate once it's out in the open then I'll consider it a success. What I really want more than anything is for people to debate it, because a story that sticks in your head for weeks after you've read it is the best kind of story. I'd like to accomplish that.
