1000 story views! · 8:39pm Sep 15th, 2014

Okay, for a lot of people, this may not be a large number. For me, however, the transition to four digits warrants a blog post!

There have been a few things that have changed in the meantime. This doesn't surprise me: I can't seem to hold onto a plan if my life depended on it. I blame the AppleDash competition, however: I've left most of my other ideas and projects behind in order to focus on this incredibly fun competition they planned, which consists of my fifth story. Whether it wins or not, I don't really mind: as I learn, I find I get better at writing, and this competition was a good opportunity for improvement and practice.

Since I've decided to do more than yammer on about my projects, I'm going to explain a bit about what I've found I like writing about instead.

It's no secret I like Appledash, since three of my stories are, in fact, focussed on the ship. Aside from that and experimental stories, though, I've found I enjoy detective stories. I've been reading up on authors like Agatha Christie and Raymond Chandler, and similar movies, etc. I think I'd like to write a few of those, and whilst I'm not good at sticking to my plans, I'd like to at least try to get a few of those down.

As for AppleDash, I've found a few elements I like writing about in there. I hadn't expected this, but I find I like to picture Rainbow describing clouds to Applejack. This strikes me as nice, and I've written it twice. Out of the two, I also seem to see Rainbow as the more, well, 'relationship' oriented of the pair, whilst Applejack strikes me as more work oriented. This comes as little surprise in hindsight since Applejack was always more grounded of the two. I have little doubt that I shall use this to my advantage later on, or at least write about it or include it.

As for anything else I'd like to include, there's engineering. I happen to study the subject (strange subject, perhaps, for a guy who writes in his spare time) and I very much enjoy it. I'd love to write some stories that include the element of engineering, specifically mechanical.

For now, though, the only things I will be working on is a translating job I'm doing for a friend, and perhaps posting an alternative entry for the appledash competition I wrote before I work on anything new.

In short, I feel that in the space of 1000 story views I have become a better writer, and I am glad for that, and I appreciate the views, comments, advice, and reception I have been given.

Thanks a lot.
