    Mother of God, pt. II

This post isn't just about le art, but first things first:

You guys remember how Wisp's cutie mark was kind of technically definitely stolen? Well, no more. Finally, at long last, it has happened:

    Kinda big news (rewriting)

So last night I spent a good several hours talking with a couple friends about Fireflank. At first it was about a few important things I might change about the story at large (and most particularly my concerns that I may allow Wisp to come off as "too" talented magically), but as things progressed and more input was given, I became convinced that it would indeed be in my best interests to go over

    I'm horrible

So I was working on Fireflank. I really was. But then Fallout: Eclipse sucked me in until I was done with its first chapter and I'm terrible.

The Tiniest Update - Fireflank Time

Just letting it be known that I'm now focusing again on Fireflank, having decided it best to work on the story that's actually at a fully writable stage. Doing at least a little bit every day.

Fallout Equestria: Duality, and why I haven't updated Fireflank yet. · 2:13am Aug 19th, 2014

I could just wait until I actually update to say this, but nah.

So, as you see, I have a title for the Fallout story now. Past couple days, I've been figuring out plenty of other things. Getting some quality time with Everhopeful is REAL nice.

Of course, I'm still intent on editing Fireflank chapter 10, but I'm getting a lot of time clocked in with me editor, which is not so common as you might think. Progressing a story to the point of writability, to me, is more important than progressing an existing story that already knows where it's going. Because the latter will still be there later, of course, while the former needs the work, so, yeah.

I apologize for the inconvenience, but I'm still going to do what I can. I know I'd hate having to wait any longer than necessary for a finished chapter. That said, I'm going to say some Fallout things now.

So, Duality. In which our heroine must struggle against herself and the harsh reality of the wasteland as she searches for a certain pony who fled their collective home. Expect zebras, expect griffins, expect mental breakdowns, and expect lampshading. It will be a sort of AU sequel to Fireflank: It follows a young descendant of Wispwillow and her wife, but that's really the only connection... In the setup.

...It's a pretty bland description, though, doesn't it? But alas, just about anything else I could say would be spoilers, besides that there will be non-pony party members, a griffin character named Artemis, themes of duality (who would ever guess), and... I might as well post her starting SPECIAL stats for the curious. Tagged skills, too. Will get more detailed, in time.

Name: Silver Eclipse
Race: Unicorn
Sex: Female

Strength: 4
Perception: 6
Endurance: 5
Charisma: 5
Intelligence: 7
Agility: 7
Luck: 6

Tagged Skills: Firearms (Small Guns), Magic Energy, Sneak

Aaand I guess that's about it for now. Unless you guys wish to know the setting, which will be the area around what was once known as Trottingham, in the southeast of Equestria.

Perhaps... :duck:

I'm looking at the story-to-be as, dare I say, more of a magnum opus. Which is probably going a bit far considering it'll be only my second story (or close, if I happen to make a oneshot in the meantime), but I plan on being more patient with it, and both planning it out and editing it more thoroughly. As in prereaders.

I'm going to try to make it the best it can be. It has the FoE legacy to live up to, after all, which I hold in the highest regard.

Whereas with Fireflank, much as I love it, I'm putting out as I go right now because over a year of inaction was enough. In any case, Duality is certainly more ambitious. :moustache:

Nowadays, I see people who talk about writing a Fo:E story and either:

A. Are die-hard about it, but hold very poor writing skills -- leading to them giving up once they see their work has not attained the same amount of fame as Project Horizons.

B. Can't write it because... Well, they aren't very good at writing and sadly they acknowledge this. (It's nice they understand their flaws, but usually I tell people to go ahead anyway. It's best to try, and say you did than do nothing at all.)

However, you're situation is... Strange to me. I took the privilege of looking at the story you tagged before I came back here to comment. I read the first chapter, and I must say your writing is very good. Not suburb, but good. A fine quality -- which I don't usually find in writers when they're about to take up a Fo:E story.

You are correct on the whole vague aspect of the description. That's okay though. At least you seem to have the general idea down. (Not to mention your goals in place by the way I read this.)

Having mentioned all of this -- I would like to help pre-read, and possibly edit for you. (At least, for the first chapter or two, depending on how quickly you pump out the chapters.)

When I started in the Fo:E community, I didn't have anyone. I was a (for lack of a better term) noob when it came to writing. Since then, I have learned a tremendous amount about structure, plotting, and crafting better quality writing.

I have the strangest feeling the same might happen here. Not many will come around to be an editor. I know, I've searched hard and only a few sign up. Likewise, they only help for a little while before quitting.

Unless your story is so engaging and immersive that it surpasses the original gaining editors/proofreads is hard. (I currently do all of my editing/proofreading on my own as of my last chapter.)

My offer stands. I'm not doing much, and if you want some before-hand criticism, as well as a fairly good editor I'm your man. (I don't bite when it comes to reviewing a work. Mind you, that doesn't mean I'm not analytical. :3)

Let me know what you think.

Ha... The timing for this is very fortuitous. My editor/partner Everhopeful just last night told me I really need to find some more people to discuss story stuff with. I can't just rely on him for help all the time, after all. So today I made a FimFic FoE group post, and a post on the FoE Writers subreddit and joined their Skype group... And the Skype group seems to be proving quite a boon.

But then there's this, when I'm still in need of a more dedicated, long-term helper/editor. Consider yourself hired, my friend, for I could very much use the help. :duck:

Also, I thank you for the compliment. I'm well aware what I've gotten down is nothing exceptional in terms of execution—I find it very easy to see, plus there's the simple fact that the story is currently operated under no oversight besides that of my editing runs—but I'm glad to hear that someone thinks it's good. I certainly like to think so, but then I see the state I left it in before editing, lol. But feedback is something I have in very short supply, so I'm glad to see even this much. :yay:

But also, in regards to the FoE quality... Hah, I should certainly hope it will be anywhere near that good. I mean, I'll be the first to say I'm no savant, being that I'm only just beginning to write, but I like to think that with enough moderation, supervision, assistance and perseverance I can make something really good that people can enjoy. After all, I hold Fallout: Equestria in the highest regard, and so in my tribute to it, I must hold the work I put out to yet higher standards. At the very least, I'm sure people will find it enjoyable enough. :duck:
