Cadance as Spike's mom · 3:19am Jul 23rd, 2014
Hello and welcome my faithful viewers.
Now, if you've read the latest chapter, you may have noticed Cadance is made out to be Spike's mom. There is a reasonable explanation...Someone has to.
A lot of people have Twilight has his mom. I don't really agree with it, seeing as Twilight was a child. (Maybe eight, like the Crusaders.) Anyway, I prefer seeing the duo as siblings. (Which they are.)
The second option would have been Twilight's parents.....Errr....It's most likely that Celestia wouldn't let a dragon out into the city, so it's not likely that they had much to do with him.
What about Celestia, you may ask? She is the most likely candidate and Faust originally intended for her to be so....But the show runners scrapped that idea when she left, so now Celestia barely knows the guy exists.
Anyways, even so, Celestia wouldn't have had a lot of time to be with him, given her status and ruling a kingdom by herself.
Which leaves us with Princess Cadance. Now, Cadance was in fact Twilight's babysitter at the time of Spike's 'birth'. So, she knows her stuff when it came to children. She seems like a loving and thoughtful pony who'd jump at the chance to care for a child. She wouldn't have a lot of stuff on her plate at the time and would be the perfect pony to raise him.
So yeah, three good points right there.
Skill-
Time-
loving nature-
But what really sparked the idea was watching The Equestrian Games. Cadance was really loving and supportive of Spike, going all out in lavishing him. It should be noted that this was the first time the two had interacted. I'm honestly surprised that someone else didn't think of this first. (Well, maybe people are too focused on shipping them...Weird.)
I might be pulling at straws, making it up, but really, I just think it's an adorable idea and Spike needs a mama....And can you deny Cadance would make a wonderful mama? Pretty much no, she's too awesome too suck at that.
But what fanfictioneer grasps for straws for their headcannon mind you?
It was a pleasent surprise when I read the chapter and it really stood out for me. I want to see where you go with it.
Besides, Discojack is pretty well a crackship anyway so lets see what else ya got.
2308085 Trust me, that isn't even the strangest thing you'll see. (I'm special that way.

I did wonder why it was Cadence instead of Celestia.
For your unierse it makes perfect sense actually, but for cannon not so much. It'd would kind of defeat the brother-sister dynamic Twilight and Spike has because Princess Cadence wasn't full a time baby sitter.
So my thoughts fall that Twilight's parents raised him.
2309324 Well, it's really up in the air, isn't it? I mean, Spike only gets one gift on his birthday, which is from Twilight.
Honestly, I kind of forgot about Twilight's parents while writing this. I do like the idea that Twilight's parents raised Spike, but I dunno. Cadance as a mom is too adorable.
So, I'll chalk it up to a decision I made on the fly rather than a full canon idea.
It's all over the map, but you've made some good points for your version, and I definitely agree about the whole "Spike as a hero of the Crystal Empire" thing. I remember from that episode he basically carried the heart across a floor and then dropped it, but it looks like now the Crystal Ponies think it was 90% Spike. I totally see Cadance doing that on purpose, not only so Spike can feel respected SOMEWHERE (and Cadance, by shunting aside credit towards her own efforts, hopefully ends up with less hero worship than Celestia has in Canterlot), but also, 500 years from now when Spike is a huge dragon and comes to visit his Mom or maybe even move in, the Crystal Ponies will be cool with that because it's not a 50 foot purple fire-breathing dragon, it's Sir Spike, the Hero of the Crystal Empire!
