After over a month's hiatus, production has finally resumed on Lightning's Bolt. You people have no idea how relieved I am for this. I chose what may have been one of the worst times to stop: basically, the end. Everything was set to start winding down to the conclusion and I just... stopped. Granted, I had a number of contest obligations, but that doesn't change the fact.

This story is now the one and only thing I am concerned with. I've already finished two chapters that are in my editors hands and the next chapter will be released tomorrow (whether you're finished or not, Merc!).

For those of you who don't know (and given the amount of attention the story's received, that's most of you), Lightning's Bolt is a spin-off of my No Heroes series in which Lightning Dust takes on the unexpected responsibility of raising a unicorn foal.

Now I know, most of you jump in and shout "I hate Lightning Dust!"

For that I say "Shame on you."

Out of all the characters in the world of MLP, I'm not sure anypony is least prepared for the role of parenthood than Lightning. I've often pondered why it is such a story is earning so little attention, but the more I ask around the more I'm hearing the same thing: "I don't like Lightning, so I'm not going to bother reading it."

Meanwhile there are dozens of stories about Rainbow Dash raising foals, or Celestia, and these get waves of attention. But anyone can see Celestia learning to become a mother, and with proper interaction it's not that big a stretch for Rainbow, either. Lightning is such a vastly different individual to be put in this position, so why isn't anyone interested in seeing how she handles it? The fact that nobody likes her shouldn't dissuade them from at least seeing where this takes her. Who knows, the story could even get people to like her.

But nobody will give her a chance.

Well I have, and I invite anyone else out there who is willing to try looking past their bookcover view of her and see if she might be more than what the show's very brief view offers.
