Changing the Story's Title? · 5:43pm May 28th, 2014
Hi all!
Yet another unorthodox blog post. This is a matter I decided to pitch to you folks seeing as this story's entirely for you guys.
Someone very kindly messaged me suggesting I change the title of '1000 Virgin Mares' as it is somewhat offensive and is quite possibly at least half if not all the reason the story seems to attract so much negative reaction with each update (in terms of 'dislikes'). I wasn't even aware it was even somewhat offensive to begin with and I sincerely do apologize if I had ever offended anyone with it. (the other suggestion was to shorten the story summary, which as you may have noticed I've done). All of this was following through from the rather unfortunate fiasco that was 'Good Guy Sombra', another story I wrote and published a short while ago (I revoked the submission pending a rewrite. It suffered all of the above problems including problematic title and overly long summary amongst other things).
Personally I'm not too concerned regarding the likes and dislikes. As long as there are enough people enjoying reading my work I'll carry on enjoying writing it. But it does bug me that the title might come across as offensive to some. Seeing as the title is out in the open one does not really have the option of NOT reading the title (as opposed to the contents which requires one to actually click the story open). Cannot unsee, etc. I'd rather not inflict that on others if I can help it.
Anyhow, the point of this post was to ask what you, the readers, feel about changing the title? Good idea? Bad idea? And if yes, any suggestions for a good new title? I'm thinking something along the lines of 'Arise God Emperor of Ponykind' or something along those lines if I do end up changing the title. I will certainly take your suggestions or elements thereof into consideration if I do go through with the title change.

Oh, in other news, I'm aiming to have the next update up this weekend. It's currently at a meaty 9000 words, will probably be a good 3000 - 4000 more by update day.
In my personal opinion that's a terrible idea. I wouldn't have even given the story a look if it hadn't been for that hilarious title. I'm also not sure how it could be offensive. Maybe the word Badass, but all you have to do to fix that is just bleep it with stars or something. I don't really see the need to change it.
558 likes to 37 dislikes is not a problem The title is hilarious and is the reason I read the story in the first place. I don't see any reason for you to change it at all.
As the ones before me said: do not change the title!
You received a mail, telling that the title is offensive? Who gives a flying crap about it?
Leave the title be, it is unique, it is original, it is BADASS!

The title was the whole reason I bothered to look at it in the first place.
Though to be fair, the story has evolved beyond what it was originally intended to be. If you feel you have something better go for it, but I think it's fine as is.
I think it's fine as it is, but if need to change it, then by all means do it. But write more chapters, A LOT MORE
to be honest i didnt even cared about the title. cant see any way for it to be offensive enough to warrant a dislike for it
Everyone is offended by something. You new title will bring new hate from someone anyways.

The title made me notice the story, that title is my personal hero for that.
If you change it you will deprive so many people from the awesomeness that is this story.
Plus, if you do not manage to offend at least one person by simply existing, then it's not living at all. There are literally people that are searching for something to be offended about, changing the title would mean they win, please do not let the terrorists win
When you made the title it was with the idea that this was indeed a one-shot story. So with that in mind you are obligated to make it zanier.
Pretty much the same for me as everyone else; it was the title that drug me into reading the story. I don't think you should change it, because honestly, who cares what a small minority of people think.

I noticed the title in a screen shot related to something else. Then went to the search engine to find it.
I was hoping to find something that would pass for a daydream I would of had at 13 but it's been fun anyways.
I highly doubt that very many people care about the title. There's plenty of reasons why your story could be generating hate, though all of them are just as stupid as getting offended by the title.
1. It's an HiE
2. It's not misanthropic
3. It's not a hate fic against HiE
4. and this is a big one - it's about a human becoming king/overlord/emperor over ponies.
That last one is most likely the main reason for any hate it's generating. Some people see that, assume Gary Stu, and downvote it without even bothering to read it.
Besides, no matter what title you choose, someone somewhere is gonna be offended by it. And when you have 500 upvotes and less than 100 downvotes, I don't think there's enough downvotes for you to bother caring about the people getting offended.
Eh im on neither side on this.
I really don`t know why anybody would have that much of a problem with the title.
