A Fascinating Look At Gender Identity · 2:15pm Sep 3rd, 2016

Hi, it's been a while. In case you're all wondering, I'm currently swamped with real life work, hence the general silence. Yay, job, yay, life.

Anyway, I'm here today to help promote a new writer on the site whose work explores something very different - gender identity. Full disclosure, Manifest Harmony, the editor of this story and (unfortunately) one of my best friends, has asked me to help promote it. But trust me, I wouldn't do it if the story wasn't worth mentioning.

Story link here. NSFW. Contains clop.

Some of you who know me may know that I only ever read clopfics with optional clop. That's the case with this story which was certainly a plus.

I have never come across gender identity in a story. I must admit it isn't a topic that interested me beyond its novelty. But as I read this I really got a feel for the struggles of those with gender confusion. It portrayed it in a frank and believable way, presenting an entire world I didnt' even know existed. Truly an eye opener.

But what really interested me was the premise. R63 Coloratura? I was skeptical at first. But then it struck me just how well it worked for the story. Svengallop helped her become a mare and was even an increasingly distant lover whose love used to help Coloratura's self esteem and identity as a mare. She depended upon her male lover and friend for both her identity and to promote her as a female star. So when he left, she lost everything, her source of gender identity, career, everything that made her a mare. Her conflict is an alien one to a firmly gender-grounded guy like me, but the way the writer weaves it makes it feel so very human and touching.

The dynamics of the romance was wonderful. I came across some of the most romantic moments I have ever seen in a story.
Coloratura: But I'm a weird stallion!
Donut Joe: So what? I'm a unicorn. Do you have a problem with unicorns?

The simple, down to earth words that just got the message across, so much more powerful than poems or serenades, words that simply say 'It's what you are, as much as being a unicorn is what I am. And I love you, all of you.'

All in all, a very eye-opening experience on a subject matter that I must admit I was embarassingly ignorant now. But I'd like to think this story has widened my horizons on the matter and has certainly given me a better understanding for gender identity.

Do I recommend it? Yes. Just don't ask me about the clop because I didn't read those parts.

Anyhow, I will be back to normal publishing schedules in about a month or two. Sorry for the delays. Stay awesome folks!
