    Writing Advice or Reading Advice?

Poked my head in at The Writer's Group for the first time in awhile. Answered some questions. Enjoyed some of the complementary snacks from the coffee table (SweetAiBelle: the hay-oreos were getting a little stale).

    Concerning US Election Shenanigans

It has come to my attention that a lot of people in the US are understandably freaking out about the presidential election. In fact, psychologists in the New York area are going so far as to declare Trump-Induced Anxiety is a Medical Thing. While the problems that plague America cannot be

    Lecture: Ideas

"Is this a good idea" threads are one of the most common topics on writing forums to the point that most have to ban these types of threads to avoid getting spammed to death. However, when these types of questions are allowed, most people worth their salt will give a stock "I dunno, it depends on your execution"-like answer. It can be a very frustrating situation for a new writer looking for

Thinking about a Weekly Twilight's Library Recap Post · 7:41pm Apr 22nd, 2014

As some of you may know, I am a story reviewer for Twilight's Library. What you may not know is that I like to keep a spreadsheet detailing the number of stories featured/approved/rejected along with a tally of why I rejected what I did. As this data isn't doing much good just sitting on my hard disk, I've been playing with the idea of starting a blog column once a week summarizing my accept/reject ratio, breaking down reasons for rejection by category (no story names, just a tally of general problems), and maybe listing links to stories I approved that week because they can get lost in the story notifications.

However, pure numbers aren't much fun without some kind of commentary, and that's where I'm open to suggestions. If it's been a week where I've seen quite a few stories with the same problem, I could see writing a blurb saying "I saw this problem a lot, here's why it is a problem and how to fix it." However, there's a bunch of writing guides and blogs that have already covered everything better than I can, and if it's a bad grammar week, I doubt anyone's going to want to read my restatement of the writer's omnibus.

I was wondering if there were any topics related to my examination of stories for Twilight's Library that people might be interested in hearing about on a weekly basis. Note that this would not reflect Twilight's Library as a whole, as I only track my numbers and thus will be writing unofficially as one person. I'd also like to keep away from discussing specific rejections, as we already have a thread for that on the group forum. Other than that, if you'd like to hear about something, toss it in a comment below. If there's enough interest, I might be able to throw something together Fridayish. There might even be graphs.

I'm always fascinated by this kind of information, so however you end up putting it together, I would totally read.

Also, just my $0.02 on the issue of re-covering material that other writing blogs cover: one can never have too much of that kind of thing. The more good guidelines are out there, the better the odds that new writers who need to see them will trip over one and learn something.

Fair enough. I could probably put together a 'problem of the week' paragraph fairly easily.

I would be interested in it.

Speaking as a neophyte pre-reader I'd love to hear more about how you pre-read.:unsuresweetie:

I think this would be a great idea. It could be a very valuable asset to new writers.

I can probably arrange something like that.

Looks like there's quite a bit of interest. I guess I'll start putting something together for this Friday. Hope you like it.

I'm a huge, huge lore buff. Any lore that I can get my hooves on, I'll try to take apart and see what I can do with it. Whether it's fanon lore or canon lore. I'm not above creating my own either, so I'd be very interested in seeing your take on some of the fanon lore that passes in front of your eyes, good or bad, and what you thought worked or didn't work.

I realize that's probably a step above what you're intending on doing, SirTruffles, but I thought that I would ask. Even a link to the story in question (or a mention if it's mature) and what kind of headcanonizing it contained or hinted at would be amazing.

I actually see one-shots more often than not, and that's not enough space to get much in the lore department. I might be able to do something about judging everyone's different headcanons, as that is definitely an issue that comes up.

I agree with SPark. It sounds like a pretty neat idea to do.

I'd read it. Just need to follow you so I see it. I'm sure you won't mind.
