Paragraphing style · 2:59am May 16th, 2012
As a relative newcomer to this site (and indeed the fandom in general), one thing that's rather startled me has been the non-standard paragraph spacing that a lot of authors use. I can't find a single established style guide that suggests using both line breaks and indentation for online publication, yet it's all over the place here. It's a little weird, to be honest. It's not something I find more than mildly odd, so I shan't make a song and dance about it -- but unless the site's guidelines start to require it, I have no intention of using the "double style" in my own stories. The usual standard for text intended to be read on-screen is to use line breaks alone, and that's what I shall do.
Edit: See Rocket's comment: apparently it's not a new style; I just haven't seen it before in anything like the volume I do here. Anyway, I'm not going to make a big thing of it, as I say.
I've used line breaks and indents for stories as long as I can recall. I may actually have been taught that way in school - I don't remember anymore.

Fair enough. I haven't run across it before, at least not in anything like the volume you get here, but I can live with it. I won't remark on it if I read a story that uses it, at any rate, and if it's ever prescribed here then I'll use it without grumbling too much.
It may be an American thing.
