Hi guys! · 3:23am Dec 22nd, 2013
Taking some time to make a post here about Boast Backers and my new chapter. Somehow I feel like this fic isn't shaping up to be at quite the level that Flipside is.
Hey, don't worry, doesn't mean that I plan to abandon it. I'm just looking say my piece here.
It just feels like I'm forcing myself to make lightning strike twice sometimes, you know? I hit something really good when I wrote Flipside and I loved working on it. I like working on this fic as well, and I've got pretty much the whole thing planned. How things play out, what order they go in, etc...
And I really appreciate any feedback I get from you guys. Encouraging comments, ones that point out typos or plot holes, or whatever, or even flat-out negative reviews. Maybe they sting a bit but they'll all help me improve as a writer. Don't worry, I'm not trying to guilt trip anyone about feedback. I'm probably mostly to blame given the infrequency of my updates on Boast Backers.
I'm just writing to say that I'm crafting this story the way that I think works best. Sometimes that means big delays in between chapters (especially with the holidays), sometimes it feels (to me at least) that my writing is coming out subpar no matter how much time I put into it. I've cut chapters when I thought they were getting too long, I've reworked other chapters to keep the story going the way I want. I feel like all of this has left the pacing of the story feel much, much slower than I originally intended.
To followers and fans of Flipside that carried over to Boast Backers and feel it's not quite meeting expectations so far, I just want to apologize. I hope you'll understand that I've no plans of redoing what's already posted (aside from typos and such of course). That's a road I tried once before in regards to my work and all it did was completely halt my progress. I'm just gonna keep writing the story the way I planned it, and hope that folks enjoy it in the end.
Sincerely,
Bed Head
I'm quite enjoying Boast Backers. It's good to see how the ponies have settled in to their roles. :) The pacing is a little slow, I agree, but as you say, it's always better to just get your stuff out there than worry about that. Even the show has pacing difficulties sometimes, the recent Flight to the Finish being an example (and yet it's still a great episode!)

I didn't notice pacing issues in Flight to the Finish, but I agree with it being an awesome episode!
Still gotta do a blog post for both it and Daring Don't... oh, and Power Ponies now too...
I don't know...some say Trixie's plot unraveled too quickly. You could have her leave town for a bit, have spike sort and her issues, and then have her come back, armed with a new more dangerous magic only Zecora knows how to stop. Just my idea.
