[Art] Castlevania Heroes · 11:12pm Dec 10th, 2013
Something from the sketchbook.
And don't worry, My Little Castlevania Adventure is VERY near completion. Just the last chapter, then an epilogue to set up the really fun MLC2. Honestly, I hated working on MLCA, but it had to be done. Soon to come: honest-to-Luna action sequences!/i]

I have dozens of artistic influences, and I'm told my "special talent" is being able to switch up styles on the fly. I dunno what kinda cutie mark that would net me, but it comes in handy.
But if you're curious, my influences include Chuck Jones (Head Animator, Looney Tunes), Salvador Dali (Surrealist artist), Osamu Tezuka (Creator, Astro Boy), Walt Disney, Doug Ten Napel (Creator, Earthworm Jim and Ratfist), Skottie Young (Artist, Marvel Comics' Wizard of Oz), Andy Warhol (Surrealist Artist), George Kamitani (Creator, Odin Sphere and Muramasa the Demon Blade), Carl Barks (Artist, Uncle Scrooge comics), Hirohiko Araki (Creator, JoJo's Bizarre Adventure), Frank Miller (In addition to being a writer for Marvel Comics' Daredevil and DC Comics' Batman, he both wrote and illustrated Sin City), Dave McKean (Artist, Batman Arkham Asylum: A Serious House on Serious Earth), Richard Williams (Animation Director, Who Framed Roger Rabbit), John Kricfalusi (Creator, The Ren and Stimpy Show!), Ralph Bakshi (Director, Fritz the Cat), Bruce Timm (Animation Director, Batman the Animated Series (as well as quite a bit if not all of the DCAU)), Ayami Kojima (Artist for multiple entries in the Castlevania series), Craig McKracken (Creator, The Powerpuff Girls), HR Giger (Surrealist artist best know for designing the Xenomorphs from the Alien movies), Will Eisner (Creator, The Spirit), and Lauren Faust (Everyone on this site knows who she is).
So yeah, lots of influences. If anyone reading this post wants to know how to become a better artist, the key is to have as many influences as possible. Learn from as many artists of varying levels of commercial success. Observe them. Drink in their styles.
A good trick for that is to think of the artists who inspired you. Now, think of who inspires them. Look up which artists they knew of, and observe them. (A really good example is how I discovered Osamu Tezuka: he and Walt Disney were good friends in real life. Heck, Tezuka helped adapt Bambi for Japanese audiences sometime after WWII.) Your art will improve with the more knowledge you obtain, and faster than you realize.
Some suggested reading for the budding artists:
The Animator's Survival Kit by Richard Williams
The Art of Game Design, by Jesse Schell
Comics and Sequential Art, by Will Eisner
Understanding Comics, by Scott McCloud
Drawn to Life, by Walt Stanchield (In fact, any book by Stanchfield)
These five books taught me much, much more about creating something awesome than any How to Draw book.
...Whoa, sorry for the long post. Guess I got too passionate.

That's ok. It's really useful advice. Now mention it i can see the different styles you used.Especially the Bruce Timm chins on Belmont and Morries. I like you displayed the different weapons. With Shinnoa forming a glif sword and Soma and Jullius with his whip.
Actually got a question on those two. Is Soma welding the Claimh Solais? If so it seems kinda small.
Also the whip Julius has. Is it the Vampire Killer? I might be nitpicking but the Vampire Killer was a chain whip by Julius got it. Though the games were never consistent on that.
not trying to be rude just nitpicking.
