Pick Me Up At Seven Sequel Progress Update · 9:38pm Dec 2nd, 2013

Now that I can tag blogs, a blog post seems in order.

Progress on the sequel (An Informal Study of Romance) is progressing. I've very nearly finished the first draft of chapter 3 (clocking in at just shy of 4K words at present), though I'm not nearly as happy with it at the moment as I am with chapters 1 and 2. Hopefully a round of editing will fix that.

As I've mentioned in various places, the story is planned to be about seven chapters long and probably in the neighborhood of 25K words total. However, because my writing style is very organic and ideas for plot development occur to me most often while I'm actively writing (or when I'm trying to sleep), I don't plan on starting to post the story until I reach the endgame and am relatively sure that nothing new will come up to necessitate editing earlier chapters.

For instance, I just recently thought up an entirely new direction to take the second half of chapter 4 which should make for a much more tense and satisfying story leading up to the climax. While it should be compatible with everything I've written so far, I can't be 100% sure until I see where exactly it goes. C'est la vie.

Finally, since I can tag blogs and notate sequels, I'll be using that functionality to notify everyone instead of posting an epilogue chapter. (Thus maintaining the story's One-Shot status.)

P.S. Also, I forgot one thing. If you have not read Pick Me Up At Seven since early August, it did receive some edits to clean up both Applejack's characterization and a few technical matters. This was done both to make the story suitable for EQD as well as to clean up a plot point for the sequel. The majority of the changes occur within the final scene, but there are some minor alterations throughout. I encourage you to go re-read it if/when you have a chance (But I will be including another reminder when the sequel goes live).

Most excellent! :pinkiehappy:

If you need another pair of eyes to offer suggestions, I'm always up for it. My muse is asleep at the wheel for the time being.

Heh, I know exactly where you're coming from in terms of revising earlier chapters when something new comes in in future ones. Well, I may need to give the original story another look if the changes are that major.

Anyway, I do look forward to what you come up with for the sequel.

They don't affect the overall plot of the story much, but they do make Applejack's reasons for doing what she does and for doing things in the exact way she does make a lot more sense and more in character.

I may take you up on that. Stay tuned.
