Hiatus Status for my stories... · 12:09am Nov 25th, 2013

Due to a decision I have made, I shall be placing all my unfinished works on Hiatus status here. There is a reason.

I was talking with a well known writer here, looking for advice on how I could make the stories better, thinking that I will need to do re-writes on some of them. Here is an excerpt from his message to me:

When it comes to writing multi-chapter stories, I feel the whole thing should be drafted at least twice before stuff is released. Releasing something and then cleaning it up later barring catastrophic circumstances is just messy, because by publishing something, you are basically saying, "This is my final draft. Have at it." If anything is published, it should be combed for polishing anyway, and the only way to achieve a significant improvement from there is to rewrite the thing. Rewrites are most effective after the entire story is complete, and you haven't looked at it for a long time (Stephen King waits 4-6 weeks between completing the first draft and beginning the second draft of his novels).

So, in effect, what I should have done is written the stories to their conclusion as a first draft, have them gone through heavily, then making all needed changes for the re-write then have them gone through again. THEN, I should have published, releasing a new chapter once a week.

So, what I shall do is place my stories here on Hiatus status. I shall continue working on them, having them gone through completely after the first draft is complete, listen to the reviewers, and make the re-writes. Once that is completed, then I can upgrade the currently published stuff to the new and improved versions, and have all the chapters ready for weekly updating.

I really hope that I do not lose followers because of this, but if I do, It is understandable. I am certain there will be some that do not want to wait...
To them, I apologize, but I have to do this, for the sake of making my stories the best stories I can produce.

While I don't necessarily agree with the advice you were given, I can respect your decision. Best of luck to you with the rewriting, Biker.

1538426 Thank you.
I just feel that what I have currently is in need of being overhauled, and this seems the best route for me.

You're welcome. Again, I understand. Take as much time as you need.

I must admit that I'm curious who you were talking to, though.. I know that The Descendant usually only releases his multi-chapters when they are all done, with the exception of Zenith.
