Notifications... or lack thereof · 10:01pm Nov 21st, 2013
So, I'm starting to notice that some people didn't receive a notification telling them that the Advent of Applejack had updated.
Well... consider this your notification if you did, in fact, not get one.
Anyway, I'm probably going to sequester myself away from the ponynet for a while -- at least until the premier of season 4 this Saturday. We'll see what kind of shenanigans everypony gets up to, and what can be used for inspiration/ story material. I've intentionally stayed away from spoilers just so it'll be a surprise, unlike last season.
Oh who am I kidding. Whatever they show this weekend, we'll be shipping it in a matter of hours...
No issues here.
I got it.
I'm still, like, four freaking chapters behind, admittedly...
I desperately need to catch up on all of my favorites.

A couple of people said they hadn't, so I figured I'd put out a blog post, just to be safe.
Oh wow and i though its only occours to me.
Didn't get notification in favs but in feed (and only by luck I saw it)
Indeed, I got about four email notifications but for some reason FIMFiction didn't show the fic in my unread favourites.
Not sure if this is at all helpful, but the multiple emails might be relevent.

Well, I wasn't exactly sure what to do. Still not, really, considering I could only reach out to people who are following me without spamming everyone's pages individually. And that... that would take some time I don't have.
I think there might be an issue with publishing a chapter, unpublishing a chapter, and then publishing it again. It seems like unpublishing removes the publishing notice, but then republishing it doesn't send out the notice a second time. I've noticed similar issues on other stories that have re-written chapters, so I suspect it probably has something to do with that.
Didn't affect me, because I got the notice when it first went up, was disappointed when the chapter was unpublished before I got to read it, and then obsessively checked and re-checked the story until the chapter was posted again.
1527367 So I'm not the only one who's really far behind? Yes!
I mean, um, that's a bummer, it is.
I promise, I will come back to read the rest. As soon as real life gives me a break.
Pft, there's already enough info to start shipping. But you stayed away from spoilers so I won't tell.
Well, that's odd. I didn't receive the notification, so thanks.
*Stop writing and start to read*

Yeah, I figured that might've been the problem.
Oh well, accidents happen.
Just to let you know, I've gotten every notification of when each chapter has been published. And have thoroughly enjoyed each one so far.
Weird that some of your readers didn't get theirs...........
Did see it in notifications, then it vanished and after clicking to go to it from feed, it asked for a password. That was within the hours after the chapter's posting, and I haven't checked since. May as well check now.
Edit: It's there.

One of the problems was that I accidentally hit publish before I meant to, so I unpublished it in order to correct a few major errors, like a fragment from one of the previous drafts that somehow survived to the finished product that would've raised quite a few questions for how inconsistent it was.
Unfortunately, that appears to have had the effect of cancelling some of the notifications, which was not something I could've foreseen. In the future, I'll have to be extra careful, and may just do the editing in Word itself, even if that'll take more time (what with the font effects coding and all.)
I didn't receive the notification on the site, but I did get an email about the update.
1528787 I had a feeling that's what it might have been. Editing at least. Not necessarily the previous draft bit. I'd opt for being more careful on Gdocs and edit as you go. At least that's what I do, and I have only once made any errors that were caught by a reader.
1528787 Ah, I see.Well, like I said earlier, what you did didn't effect my notification at all. It's just weird that it did some of the others.
And it's good that you caught that. I can see how it would've messed up the chapter. I'll have to watch that myself, when I start submitting my fics' chapters here, too.
And I don't think anyone could've, bro. It's just one of those weird things that sometimes happen, I guess. Even to the best of us.
And I type all my chapters up in Word, anyway. I've never really used GDocs for anything, as I've never had anything with it on it. (Heck, I hadn't even really heard of it til just a year or so ago.) So, consequently, I don't really know about the difference in the coding (font effects, or otherwise) between Word and GDocs. I was just hoping to be able to transfer what I've got typed up in Word to GDocs. To that end, any advice/council in how to transition between the two would be most welcome. From anyone.

I'm with you; until recently, I'd never even heard of Googledocs. Still don't use it simply because I'm more comfortable with Word. I have been experimenting, though -- I got a word processor app on my new tablet, so it'll be interesting to see if I can write a chapter or two on that. Still learning the ropes, though.
But for the most part, I write my stuff in Word, so I can take it anywhere I want and work with it (considering the mountainous region I live in, internet access can be spotty at times, so having a local copy for when inspiration strikes is a must). But putting italics in Word is different from putting italics on this site, as you have to enter [ i ]/[ /i ] every time to do it, or [ b ]/ [ /b ], etc. It's easier to do it here because you can just select the sentence or word and hit one of the buttons overhead to do it, but in Word you have to manually input them every time, and if you aren't careful, one can accidentally italicize an entire chapter because one put in a bracket backwards or something. It's happened to me I-don't-know how many times, and will probably happen again in the future, odds are.
This rant brought to you by a wandering train of thought.
I didn't get it either, but I luckily checked that day and saw it.
After having a bit of a happy moment I got depressed since I needed to study for a test... But the chapter was read none-the-less.

That happened to me once! A whole lot of people started commenting saying, "where's the next chapter?" Weird...
