    Rant

I'm sure a great many of you are purveyors of the fine arts. Writing, drawing, painting, singing, making music, whatever your flavour, I want to talk to you. People are going to tell you to study things that will get you a decent job, even if those things aren't in the direction you want to go. People will tell you that having dreams is nice and all, but you need to take the path of least

    Good lord!

    That's a lot of followers!

In celebration of this crazy occasion, I'd like to ask for your opinions on something. A lot of people come to me for writing advice, and while I don't claim to be the most skilful writer, I do know some useful bits of general knowledge. Would anyone be interested in occasional blog posts where I address the most common problems budding writers encounter?

    Where is the next chapter?

I'm not dead, nor have I been incapacitated. Every time I set a schedule, life makes it abundantly clear that it disapproves.
My apologies for the lack of updates. I've been so frustrated with having no time or energy to write that I cut myself off from a few things, this site being one of them.

    University Days next chapter RESULTS

The poll results are in and out of the 2,000+ readers, almost 300 voted. It's cool, I ignore blog posts too.

Anyway, the decision has been made and the next chapter will cover the day before Octavia's birthday (AKA awkward snowy cuteness).

University Days Posting Schedule · 3:07pm Apr 9th, 2012

Hey there.

I'm currently unsure about my posting schedule, and I'm looking for your input.

There are two options:

1) I post a chapter when it is done, no matter how long it has been since the last one. This means it will update more sporadically: sometimes there might be an update 2 days after the last one, and sometimes it might be 2 weeks.

2) I stick to posting one every 4-5 days and hope I can keep up. This would theoretically be more consistent, and it would give you a day to look forward to every week (if you're enjoying the story, that is). The downside is that it puts more pressure on me, and the quality/length of each new instalment might suffer because of that.

What are your thoughts?

Random and polished, or steady and rusty?

EDIT: Looks like it'll be polished and steady to the best of my ability, and slip-ups will be notified by blog post so the trackers aren't left in the dark. Good work, team! Really pulled together on this one!

Quality always beats quantity. I'd say you should go with Nr. 1.

First one, because why rush chapters? I'd like to get good finished stories then ohm.... rushed ones.

:ajbemused: *inhale* :ajsleepy: *exhale* :ajsmug: Here goes nothing! Ultimately, it should be your choice, but if I were you, I would go with 1) and 2), in the sense that you pick a schedule for yourself, say 1 week to finish a chapter, then about a few days to proofread, edit and spellcheck and other assorted editor-y stuff. Personally, I don't really mind sporadic updates, seeing as I follow stories that update monthly or even bi-monthly, but in any case, you should do what you think is right with you and also you shouldn't be too influenced by the majority's vote. Hope that helped :twistnerd:

As much as I would enjoy quick updates I think it would be best if you take your time and concentrate on the quality and length of chapters.

So long as you keep updating and don't abandon the fic, I'm not too bothered about the posting schedule. So number one gets my vote.

That said, I'm not exactly averse to regular/frequent updates, either...

I think you should try to keep to the 4/5 day schedule, while keeping in mind that we understand that real life can get in the way sometimes (as well as writers block and chronic laziness). Basically, mix option A and B together, really. Of course, if you do happen to finish a chapter early, we could hardly complain if you decide to post it immediately, and we would understand that the following chapter might take longer than 4/5 days because of the early update.

Like, go about the 4/5 day schedule, and we'll expect a chapter at about that time. If you think the chapter needs more work, or if you've just been swamped with RL junk, let us know there's gonna be a delay and maybe give a general estimate on how long said delay might be. That way we know the earliest we can expect a chapter, and if we get one earlier than that, it's a pleasant surprise. :rainbowkiss: Unlike most fandoms I've been a part of, I've found the Brony community to be very accepting of the consequences that come of life's unexpected roadblocks. Really, if you keep us posted, you can do things any way you want.

Thus: semi-steady and mostly-polished.

Random and polished - but steady if you get the chance. Post a chapter every 4-5 days if you can keep to it, and never do a release earlier than that.
You finish a chapter in 2 days, great! Release it 3 days later, and give yourself a break, or work on the next one and get a bit of a buffer. You finish a chapter in two weeks, great! Release it 3 weeks later, and give your-

I'm kidding. You do whatever suits you :rainbowkiss:

Coming from someone who has the same problem, I'd say do it when you have the time and the quality is good, so No. 1. I've tried keeping a schedule, but it just doesn't work because of my crazy time-constraints at home, and also the fact that sometimes I can write and crank things out, and other times I don't have anything or the "feel" for writing at the moment, so the quality is less. Number One, definitely.

I vote for # 1

I say go with 1, I've written a fanfic once in the past and it's much more strenuous trying to keep pace with a fixed schedule unless you have a LOT of spare time to devote to the fanfic; you can really end up burning yourself out and sacrificing quality if you're not careful.

Number one. better quality and im used to waiting for updates because of other stories i follow

Definitely Number one.
I'd rather starve then be fed crap.
I wanna see quality chapters of this fic, because i love it so ^-^

Number 1 and just try not to take two weeks to update :rainbowlaugh:

#1 of course! :twilightangry2::flutterrage:

Take your time :pinkiehappy:
A great fic like this deserves polish and attention
We don't need some slapped together words! (as in an update for the sake of updating) :rainbowlaugh:
Keep up the great work, I'm more than happy to wait if the payoff is quality (which I know it is)

Take your time with it...since its so good im sure people won't mind waiting a bit i know i don't
Just keep at it is all we want to see

Any thing that suits your creativity. A good piece of work takes dedication & time. We, the fans, although hungry for more understands. :rainbowwild:

Definitely option 1. Besides quality, if an author forces himself or herself to a schedule it might become a chore, which is never a good thing.
