I am fully aware that I said I was gonna have Mass Effect up a few days ago... things just kinda... got out of hoof.
SO to make up for the lapse in my writing (which I am currently trying to rectify) I present a little bit of art from our good friend: Foxinshadow
Also have something else special in the works.
With any luck, will have more time as memorial day draws closer followed by my personal vacation which will take place the first full week of June. (YAY! Days off work *dances* )
With luck, will be able to utilize this time to give you fillies and gentlecolts the stories you deserve.
Only time shall tell.

Okay.. seriously mad scientist straight haired Pinkie is freaking SCARY! Please, please somepony introduce her to how to perm her mane. Get it back to curly. hell have her invent a mass effect field generator will keep it. but straight hair on her.... to many bad bad correlations. And that Slasher Smile doesn't help.

I am at the beginning of ME3 after having burned through the first two and this storie is to thank for it, after reading Mass effect 2 dlc. I went and bougth the trilogy(litteraly finished the storie and 30 min later had ME1 spinning up.) of Mass effect so I can redo them all. Thanks for the push.

Well that's scary enough as is, but the way she looks in all the art is downright terrifying.
And, okay you weren't what got me to give the Mass Effect series a try in the first place, that was SF Debris. but you WERE who gave me a kick in the ass to actually finish it before you started getting into spoilers for 3.

Fluttershy's new mark represents the balance the ponies must have when dealing with alien sapient species.

I have to say, I LOVE the artist who does the art for your stories. It really captures your interpretation of the characters well. Mad scientist pinkie, robotic changelings, and the design of Twilight's formal outfit on the cover is fantastic and fit perfectly with your text descriptions.
In fact let me just say here how impressed I am with the whole 'integration with galactic society' thing. In too many fics I've read about ponies being part of humanity or some other large culture, ponies always seem to stay the same. Same mentality, same colloquialisms, and same problems. And then when someone tries to write the ponies as changing or adapting, it turns into nothing but culture suicide or ridiculousness. For example I read a fic where when ponies met humans, it became customary to only wear clothes around them and all the clothes were tight fitting human designed ones. And then in the same fic they suggested that ponies could and SHOULD walk around like humans bipedally, because walking on all fours was like being a beast.
Your fic however EMBRACES what the ponies are and doesn't shy away from it. No species should be ashamed of its own self, the very idea is almost ludicrous. The ponies in your fic learn and adapt, a staple of a sapient being. They try to hold themselves to what is considered common decency while also not abandoning their ideals for complacency among others. And I love it.
So keep up the awesome work, keep writing like a pro, and I will be here happily waiting to see how much crazy you can get when you give Pinkie a particle accelerator and a 2 liter of cola. (The good news is she found a new way to carbonate drinks! Bad news, it took out a wall in the process... the soda did, not the accelerator.)

1086277 She's had to grow up and become a more serious and grown up pony to grow into her position. Once you lose that child-like innocence of living in the nearest thing to Eden, then you're never quite the same again. that was something I asked Fox to try and show in the picture.

Comments like this make me happy. And one thing I loved about the Mass Effect universe was that the alien species were not just 'humans with some stuff on their heads'. You have the Hanar, Asari, Salarians, and turians... all with very different ideals and cultures that are not quite like anything found on Earth. It would be easy to make the Equestrians into 'human 2.0' but while they do share enough commonalities with humanity to have a basic understanding, I wanted to use 'Shades of Twilight' to show them as a unique species finding their place.

Though, on a separate note, I would hardly call Equestria an "Eden". More one that tries, and hilariously fails all the time to be one.
I have to say that I like Twilight's expression the most. You can't quite tell if its one of sadness or resigned determination. Fluttershy's is one of resolve.
Pinkie's is either one of anticipation for fun(Interstellar war? Party time! Grab the guns!), or satisfaction at getting away with rolling and crossing her eyes at everyone during conversations from behind the one way goggles.
Stories like this make me cry you know? It really shows how life is sometimes. At some point, we all have to grow up. These girls, who we've known for so long so happy and innocent... Almost all of that taken away from them. They only have each other left, but goddamn if they aren't doing their best.
They had to grow up... But not like this.
