Ponyfinder

A Pony Pathfinder Supplement

New Rules

New Racial Types: The "Equine" type hereby replaces the "Humanoid" type. Mechanical statistics are unchanged. Players who wish to run mixed human/pony games should note that while the two types are mechanically identical, they are not the same type, and spells that target Humanoids do not impact Equines and vice-versa.

G-Rated Combat: All combat in Ponyfinder is non-lethal. "Slain" enemies are assumed to either slink away, or be knocked unconscious for several hours. The non-lethal damage rules instead reflect the difficulty of capturing someone without rendering them unconscious or otherwise doing them harm.

Heroes of Harmony: Hero Points are no longer earned by performing great deeds. (See The Friendship Report, below). Characters start the game with one hero point.

The Friendship Report: The usual XP system is void. Instead, at the end of each adventure, the GM assigns the players a number of Harmony Points, ranging from 0 (Magic Kindergarten) to 7 (Orbital Friendship Cannon). Points accrue between sessions, and may be spent by group consensus. The group may spend three Harmony Points to give every character a Hero Point, may spend seven Harmony Points to alter or cause a significant plot event, or may spend fourteen to level up. Additionally, every character receives a hero point at the end of any adventure where the group gets a score of seven.
Honesty: The group stood by their principles under conditions when doing so had serious downsides for them. Offered an opportunity to take a quick win by doing something under-hooved, they passed it up in favor of doing the right thing. In short, they were big darn heroes.
Loyalty: The group displayed strong teamwork over the course of the session. The group accomplished something by acting as a team they could never have accomplished by acting as a group of individuals.
Kindness: The players showed concern or interest in the game world and its inhabitants. NPC's are treated like people instead of characters in a story. The players do not assume that being the heroes gives them moral license to act as they choose.
Laughter: The group did something so clever it left the GM grinning like an idiot, or so funny that everyone was reduced to incoherent giggling. The individual personalities of the players stood out and made the session.
Generosity: All players were offered a chance to contribute, and no one player stole the spotlight and screen time. When one player got stuck or was at a loss for how to participate, the other players stopped to help them.
Magic: The group had interesting roleplay. Characters felt deep and nuanced, or presented interesting traits not seen before.
Harmony: The group overcame a legitimate internal divide, be it personal, emotional, or principled. The conflict felt real and did not have a trivial, easy solution, but the characters still managed to overcome it and emerge stronger from the experience.

Special Snowflakes: While many general observations can be made about the three pony races (for instance, that earth ponies do not tend to be wizards), Ponyfinder characters are not restricted from taking any classes or abilities they would normally qualify for. While almost all spellcasters are unicorns, if you want to play a variant Earth Pony Shamen (Zecora), you can. Earth Pony and Pegasi may, at no cost, elect that their spells or spell like abilities are "not really spell-casting." For instance, many Earth Ponies have cutie marks related to agriculture. Mechanically, they would be free to use their Cutie Mark points (see below) to purchase spell-like abilities related to making plants grow, using the rationale that it's just earth-pony magic.

Ponies
Level Adjustment: +1 (Offical Rules), +2 (GM's Recommendation)
Type: Equine
Size: Medium
Base Speed: 40ft
Ability Score Modifiers: +2 to any two ability scores, -2 to any one ability score
Languages: Equestrian
Racial Traits:
Eternal Hope: Ponies gain a +2 racial bonus on saving throws against fear and despair effects. Also, once per day, after a natural roll of 1 on a d20 roll, members of this race may reroll and use the second result.
Fleet of Hoof: Ponies gain a +10 foot racial bonus to their speed when using the charge, run, or withdraw actions.
Traditional Fashion: Ponies wearing a saddle or other traditional accouterments count as "mounted" for the purposes of benefiting from Mounted Combat feats, such as Trample. The Ride skill prerequisites for those feats are waived.
Buck: Ponies have two 1d6 damage natural hoof attacks.
Quadruped: Ponies gain a +4 CMD bonus against being tripped.
Self-Expression: Ponies have a +4 racial bonus to Perform (singing).
Cutie Mark: Ponies have an additional eight race points they may spend on unique abilities that reflect their special talent (subject to GM approval). Ponies may combine these points with their existing racial traits—for instance, unicorns may use their cutie mark points to upgrade their natural telekinesis.

Earth Ponies:
Skilled: Earth Ponies gain an additional skill rank at 1st level and one additional skill rank whenever they gain a level.
Talented: Earth Ponies gain an additional feat at 1st level.

Pegasi:
Wings: Pegasi have a 50ft flight speed with Average maneuverability.
Cloudwalking: Pegasi can walk on clouds as though they were solid objects.

Unicorns:
Lightbringer: All unicorns can use the Light and Mage Hand spells at-will.
Natural Magic: Unicorns may select a number of spells of up to third level that do not harm living beings or deal damage. They can use these spells at-will. They can have a total of three levels of spells selected this way (so one 3ed level spell, three 1st level spells, etc. 0th level spells count as 0.5 levels).

Example Cutie Mark Rules

Big Mac: Big Mac has a total of eight Racial Points to spend on his cutie mark, so he selects Large (7 points), and Specialized: Physical (1 point). This gives him +4 Strength, +0 Dexterity, -2 Charisma, and the Large size category. This easily gives him the strength to secure Smarty Pants and later to burst out of a pile of mares.

Rainbow Dash: Rainbow Dash has a total of eight Racial Points to spend on her cutie mark. She spends four upgrading her racial flight to a 70ft base speed and gaining perfect maneuverability. The other four she spends on a bonus feat, though if it's Run or Improved Napping is a matter of interpretation.

Twilight Sparkle: Twilight Sparkle has a total of eight Racial Points to spend on her cutie mark. Also, her player is a huge twink who is determined to totally break the game, so there's that. She spends five on upgrading her At-Will Spell Like Ability, letting her take a 5th level spell and a 0th level spell at-will. She selects Light and Telekinesis. That leaves her with five points (three left, plus two from her Lightbringer ability that her other pick replaced), so she buys Advanced Intelligence (4 points), and Specialized: Mental (1 point). This gives her +4 Intelligence, +2 Charisma, and -2 Strength. Note that since she picked it as her spell-like, Twilight cannot use her Telekinesis to deal damage in combat.

My Medium Equine, My Medium Equine, aahhhhhh~

The non-lethal damage rules instead reflect the difficulty of capturing someone without rendering them unconscious or otherwise doing them harm.

What kind of difficulty rating are we talking about, for weaponizing vats of acid non-lethally?

Yesterday I mentioned this to my brother and friends and I got roped into doing a campaign for one of their birthday's in three weeks. So, are there any additional rules I need to know?

The cutie mark rules, as presented here, are very breakable. For instance, someone could take Form of the Dragon as their cutie mark spell because it technically doesn't deal damage (just turns you into something that deals damage). The GM needs to be aggressive about nixing game-breaking cutie marks. I'd also discourage high-end healing spells and anything that generates wealth.

I just want to say this is pretty sweet. I'd like to play more Pathfinder some day, but my current group leans more toward indie-er games. I don't think even Ponyfinder would convince them. :fluttershysad:

Aww. I'm sorry to hear that. Good luck convincing them though. I'm actually running a game of it with some bronies I know now! I'll be posting some blog updates of how it goes.

I feel your pain....I have to stop going to my game night with my group due to my summer classes:fluttercry:

989982 racial point rules are AFK?

They're in the pathfinder SRD! Google it. ^_^

I...really want to play this. Like, really insanely want.
(Doesn't help that I already wanted to play Pathfinder-ish games...)

Been using it for awhile now. It's quite good!

I nearly did get to play Pathfinder once, but the group never ended up getting together because reasons.
And now, ponies! I have got to find some people who will play this with me - also someone who can actually run things and rein in me and my crazy friends.

Anyway it does look quite fun.
