Writing... For Charity... Sort Of · 4:21am Feb 27th, 2013
So there I am, checking my notifications when: lo and behold, two new blog entries! What is this madness!? My good friends passing acquaintances mortal enemies, Nietzsche and Pav Firestarter, with the former referring to the latter, both posted blog entries about commissioned fanfiction.
Me using my computer... which looks just like playing Guitar Hero
Imagine my surprise when I discovered that this was not for the sole purpose of whoring themselves out like the three-dollar hookers they are. Rather, it turned out that Pav, a man not known for his charity work, had decided to turn a new leaf in his life and do something selfless for once. He's done the world a favor and stopped writing awesome mediocre fanfics, and has instead offered his "services" as a, er, "writer" in order to raise money for the poor souls from Las Pegasus Unicon who were unceremoniously forced to pay nearly double their original room rates, in addition to being kicked out of their rooms and, in some cases, even left stranded in the middle of Vegas.
Now, if you haven't been following the recent drama surrounding LPU, I'll sum it up quickly... by copying what Pav wrote...
The con is several thousands of dollars underfunded, several VAs and other special guests have not been paid in full, and worst of all, some of the attendees have been slapped with absurdly high hotel bills. Some of these attendees are actually still stranded in Las Vegas.
Desperate to help, a number of individuals, led by Coder Brony (organizer of the Brony Thank You Fund, and one of the admins of the Herd Census) and others, put together a charity drive for the stranded attendees, to help them offset the costs they were saddled with due to the con organizers, or Riviera, or whomever the true villain ends up being. This site is helping to negotiate the sale of charity items, with sellers assigning 75% to 100% of the proceeds to those in need. You're able to bid and sell directly on the forums here, so I encourage you to take a look at the items for sale, or host your own auctions there.
Seeing as I'm a nice guy and all but an awful writer, I thought I'd do my part to help out by reblogging Pav's blog twice rather than host my own "Will write for bits" drive. However, were there any interest in that, I would be more than happy to oblige any potential commissionees.
Anyway, if you are unable, or unwilling understandable, to donate money to get a fanfic of your choosing written, then I simply ask that you spread the word. Remember, this is a community built on the ideals of love and friendship. So, what kind of fandom would we be if we didn't step up to the plate when people truly needed it?
...and that's all I have to say about that.
alexmagnet, out...
And once again, I need to set the record straight. 100% of my fanfic auction is going to LPU victims in need. However, all proceeds raised from selling myself on the corner are NOT going to charity. I sell my body because I am a nasty, nasty girl, and these 6" clear heels don't come cheap. Thanks for the misinformation. Kid, I oughta smack your face.
Thx for reblog! You guys are the best <3
Also hijacking this comment to mention that GaPJaxie—terrific author, all-around great guy, and my hetero life partner—is also donating a commish. If you want a story by someone with actual talent, be sure to bid on his auction!
