It's the obligatory new year blog post.

And yes, I am posting this at around midnight on new year. I have a nasty cold, so I decided to disobey nurgle's one command and stay home.

    Just for kicks

I'm mucking around with Lulu for a work-related project (very boring stuff) and thought I would do a quality test with something fun.

    The odd things

I've just been reading through old comments on my scraps story, after publishing yet another chunk from the ancient cutting room floor. It's remarkable how many of the commenters are still around - but also how many logged off for the last time, soon after making their last comment there.

    But in brighter news

While I'm not making any promises about any particular project here, I am actually writing again. I figure if I write enough of something, some pony words might drop out somewhere along the line as well. You never know. What I'm working on at the moment is essentially a re-write of a story I read a long time ago; an old pulp sci-fi tale, about a spaceship that manages to get lost in the

MFW I have more ideas than I can ever hope to write · 11:35am Feb 19th, 2013

I have a problem. Too many ideas, that's what it is. Too many ideas of epic scope and complexity that I must create, but can't create because they're too big toput together in a reasonable amount of time.

I have another problem. A tendency to start a fic and then abandon it for a new idea because the old one loses my interest. In previous fandoms I did this quite regularly and have a trial of half-finished stories behind me that I sometimes think I should go back and finish. Only that would require re-writing the crap I wrote in the 90s to overcome the incredible grammatical and structural issues they present, which is more trouble than it's worth.

So without further ado lets throw a few fic ideas out there. If it worked for And The Stars Shine Forth it might work for these too.

The Ideas

» Serving the Night

Following the events of her brother's wedding, Twilight Sparkle begins to believe that Celestia is no longer capable of defending Equestria and that the princess has manipulated Twilight and her friends into becoming both a weapon and Celestia's personal shield. After careful analysis over several weeks she becomes convinced that the only pony who could competently defend the country is Luna, but in her current form she is neither willing nor capable of replacing Celestia, and Celestia would never willingly hand over the crown to her 'younger' sister.

While talking over the past with Luna as part of her research, Twilight discovers that the night Princess has suppressed her 'adult' form out of fear of the power that comes with it, power that she believes would corrupt her once again. Twilight realises that the 'adult' form of Luna is stronger than Celestia and sets about trying to convince the princess to become her true self once again.

When her arguments fail, and determined to protect her home at any cost, Twilight realises she has only one course left: She must provoke Luna's transformation into Night Mare Moon.

It goes about as well as you'd expect.

You can see an early version of this here

Three hundred years ago the dragons rose in a brutal war of conquest against Equestria.

They won.

Twilight Sparkle is the servant, assistant and close friend of Thyrsus, eldest son of the Horde-Emperor Fornax - or as close a friend as a pony can be to a dragon. She has always accepted her place but this has meant she has few friends amongst the ponies, however her reflexive loyalty to the dragons and her friendship with Thyrsus has given her access to the knowledge she has always craved and eventually allows her to stumble across an ancient book of prophecy describing a 'princess' she had never heard of before, and foretelling the return of the Mare in the Moon.

The Emperor both dismisses the book as the ramblings of "quailing inferiors" and dispatches Thyrsus and Twilight to oversee a new gemstone mine in the province of Silva Liberum, a place said to be haunted by the ghosts of ancient and abandoned gods.

While there she accidentally provokes a minor rebellion when she leaves the book in view of another pony and witnesses up close the brutality of the dragons as they defeat the rebel ponies and sentence them to death. She tries to convince Thyrsus to be lenient with them but he avoids the issue, not wanting to hurt his friend, but neither wanting to incur the wrath of his father.

Disgusted with the dragon she thought was her friend, Twilight takes matters into her own hooves and instigates a new rebellion, freeing the captive ponies and retreating to the dense forest where she finds an abandoned fortress. The rebellion is again short-lived as the dragons decimate her rag-tag army and soon Twilight faces defeat at the hands of the superior dragon forces.

And then the sun goes out.

» One day more with you
A sequel to Guiding Light

Following the ascent of De Raptura to the throne, Twilight Sparkle has adapted well to life under her new Princess and spends her days tutoring Dinky, wrangling the rump of the court and avoiding the attentions of would-be suitors while she attempts to understand her new relationship to both her Princess and her friends. Though she misses her former mentor, Twilight has finally accepted that she will never again see Celestia. Then one day she wakes to find that Derpy is back in Ponyville, Celestia is back on the throne and Twilight herself has wings. It seems like a dream come true until a threat to Equestria faces Twilight with the most difficult choice she has ever made in her life; remain with her beloved mentor and watch Equestria be destroyed, or save her home by restoring the world in which Celestia was taken from her.

Hey, Serving The Night sounds familiar! I still need a name for my MoonLight. (shitty emote faces are shitty)

Forged in Flame sounds amazing in concept. It also probably helps that I love Nightmare Moon stories.

Forged in Flame sounds hardcore. :rainbowderp:

I'll admit, Forged in Flame is something I would probably read.

Fuck probably, it's something I'd definitely read.

Forged in Flame sounds imteresting. Really, I'd read any of these ideas if you came out with them, so... do what you want.

Also, angry Luna is best pony princess!

I never fuck probabilities, I don't know if they will return my calls.

Reading stuff nowadays depends on how far down it is on the "Read Later" list.

I can't read all the fics fast enough. These ideas are all great. The dragon one sounds sweet.
