[Grimdark Warning] Alternate (Joke) Ending to Wendersnaven · 7:09pm Feb 10th, 2013
I came up with a terrible idea for an alternate ending to The Wendersnaven, and I just had to share it. Obviously not to be taken seriously.
An hour passed, and then another. The two of them saw finches and sparrows and robins. They saw field mice and shrews. They saw a fox dart across the green landscape, and they spotted an otter splash across the stream below them. But they did not see anything they could call a Wendersnaven.
Somehow, Twilight couldn't bring herself to be very disappointed. Perhaps she did not get to broaden ponykind's knowledge of the natural world, but she did get to spend the afternoon basking in the sun and enjoying the company of the gentlest and kindest pony she knew. It certainly beat sulking in her room, wishing her schedule could rewrite itself.
After a while, Fluttershy cleared her throat. “Um, Twilight,” she said, “I have a confession to make.” There was the nervous edge in her tone Twilight had noticed earlier in the day.
Twilight swiveled her ears to face her friend. “What is it, Fluttershy? You know you can tell me anything.”
“Yes...” said Fluttershy quietly, “I do know that.”
Twilight tilted her head in confusion, but remained silent to let her shy friend speak.
Fluttershy swallowed. “You see, Twilight, when I said that nopony has seen the Wendersnaven, that wasn't exactly true.” The corner of her mouth twitched suddenly.
“Oh?” Twilight blinked.
A strange, dull light sparked in the pegasus' teal eyes. Her voice dropped to a hiss. “I've seen it, Twilight! In all its terrible glory, I have been made to witness the thing which is the Wendersnaven!”
“Fluttershy?” Twilight took a step back, concern crossing her features. “What are you talking about?”
An unhealthy chuckle built in Fluttershy's throat. “It came to me wreathed in the darkest of nightmares, and now it has followed me into the waking world! Even now it calls to me, in whispers and screams and silence! Can't you hear it, Twilight?”
“Okay, I think we've had enough mountain air for one day,” Twilight laughed nervously. “Let's get you home so you can lie dow—ah!” She shrieked in surprise as something cold and wet and sticky brushed against her rear leg.
Fluttershy's lips drew back in a mad rictus. Her eyes were feral, shrunk to quivering pinpricks. “Equestria shudders and writhes at its touch!” she shouted as though it were an incantation.
Twilight's breath came in short bursts. “This—this isn't funny, Fluttershy!” she shouted. She wanted to turn around and start galloping. She wanted to jerk her leg away from whatever slimy... thing was touching it. But try as she might to move, she found herself paralyzed, unable to even turn her eyes away from the piercing stare of her yellow friend as something sinister writhed against the edges of her vision.
Fluttershy's whole body shook as she took an unsteady step towards her. Her voice returned almost to normal for a moment. “There was one other thing I lied about, Twilight,” she said. She once again dropped into a whisper. “The Wendersnaven doesn't eat flowers.”
As Twilight Sparkle's horrified screams echoed through the crisp mountain air, a voice that could never have belonged to a pony erupted from Fluttershy's throat. “Wendersnav' f'taghn.”

Although honestly, I preferred the original! And one of the very few times I might say that, but... yes, the original was a good whole package. Although this isn't bad either, it has all the good elements in it, including slime and elder gods.
Hrmermemrm... Twist knows not which ending be better...
