The Plague (a stomach bug) attacked my brother last night, which means I probably have only a few days before I am laid up worshiping the porcelin bowl. I was planing on heading home Sunday, but now I'll have to wait until this passes so I don't infect my grandmother.
Before I succumb the invasion that no doubt is occuring within my poor body, I thought I'd share a deleted scene from Chapter 9. It was removed from 8 originally, but then the section it was with got bumped to 9 for length and pacing reasons. Why is this scene deleted? Because it completely didn't fit with the rest of Myths and was just something I was running away with while listening to Ocean Princess. It did, however, give me more confidence to someday write the Applejack and Fluttershy on a 18th century British frigate story that's been teasing my imagination for several months.
In this scene, Twilight and Rainbow are aboard the Bellerophon on their way to Zebrica when they come under attack by a pirate ship. This wasn't edited, though it did get passed through spellchecker before being sent to the deleted scenes file to hang out with Fleur being Bad-Flanked and several of Celestia's Exposition Bot-9000 dialogues.
She looked up in time to see Bellerophon’s iron strike the Sea Serpent, the smaller ship shuddering under the hammering of eighteen-pounders. The heavy guns of Bellerophon never fired, the sea running too high to open the lower gun-ports. Twilight vaguely heard Rainbow screaming for somepony to help, the crew joustling around her to repair the ship, Captain Hardy again ordering her bellow, but all of it didn’t matter.
The princess' gaze was locked onto Rainbow, the weather captain sitting hunched over one of the midshipmares. A jagged splinter as long as Twilight's foreleg protruded from the filly's chest and her once keen eyes as cloudy and unseeing as the sky above. Numb and in shock, Twilight stared at her friend as Rainbow's coat was stained crimson with a filly’s blood. She couldn’t even begin to process or understand the world in which the sailors lived. Somepony began to tug Twilight towards the hatch, but Twilight refused to move, a wing batting aside the pony that had grabbed her.
Fire and smoke again consumed the side of the pirate ship, sending the full weight of her cannons towards Bellerophon’s vulnerable stern. The ship’s great windows exploded in a shower of glass shards and splinters while Twilight continued to try to process and understand the sudden change to her world. Only vaguely through the incomprehensible images and thoughts assaulting her did Twilight hear a report that the rudder had been shot away and that the Bellerophon was completely at the Sea Serpent’s mercy.
Lastly, I am working on an Appendix of Names, as requested by a few of Myth's readers. It's a bit spoiler filled, and I'm not to sure where exactly I should put it. I thought about making an unpublished story location that I'd then link to in a blog and in Myth's synopsis. But, reading the site rules, that looks to be a no-no. My other option is making it a blog itself with the synopsis link. I'll probably do that around the time Chapter 8 is published.

As I said, it just doesn't fit with the rest of Myths. It felt out of place to have a big naval battle between a 74 gun ship-of-the-line and a 40 gun frigate just because I could. Especially when I should be getting on with the griffons, Trixie and Shyara, and Twilight having to deal with all the complications of her alicorn-hood.

Well, it's a deleted scene, so not-canon. Also, it was a midshipmare that died, not Rainbow. The pony in her arms is described as barely looking old enough to have a cutie mark during the build-up to all the pew-pew ships exploding death rawr.
