Winter Update for Sunset of Battle

Going to be a short update.

Chapters 15 and 16 are in the final editing phases now. I'm waiting to publish anything however until after chapters 17 and 18 are done so I have the latitude to tweak 15 and 16 as needed. Once the current story arc is finished I'll start posting the chapters on a weekly basis.

    That is all...

    Like I said; short update.

    XD

    A minor alteration...

I made a minor edit to the most recent chapter. There were two little words that had become a massive pain in my arse working on the next chapter. They were, 'to her'. :twilightangry2: It was leading to rabbit holes of character arguments that spiraled into hellish domains where finding a feasible 'out' for Sunset grew dire indeed. After several attempts I've decided to just rip out the root

Nearing the end of Schola Arc, and future planning.

So, as I begin to near the final rise in action for the schola arc of Sunset of Battle I'm looking more and more ahead to what I want to do with the story and where to go next. My general plan is to do a time-skip to when they are novitiates and start the next arc in-media res. But what to do and who to have as the antagonists?

Quick update on Myths · 7:14pm Dec 27th, 2012

Hello everyone! I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas filled with much feasting and merriment. I know I did. One of my brothers surprised me with a Twilight Sparkle plushie even. How thoughtful.

After some consideration, I'm going to be doing something I thought I never would; a chapter insert. In this case, a new Chapter 5 is going to bump the current Chapter 5 to the Chapter 6 position. This has naturally delayed the small Interlude chapter that bridges Part One and Part Two of Myths. It's been ready to go since Sunday, but trying to figure out if I was or wasn't going to do a chapter insert stopped it being posted.

The 'new' Chaper 5 is taking shape and should shortly be able to be tossed at my wonderful editors. With luck Chapter 7 will follow quickly and things will progress as they progress.

How I am going to do the insert I've not decided yet. Option A is to to delete and loose all the comments on the present Chapter 5, then post 5 and 6 together with a brief author's note at the start of 6 (the old 5) about their being a new 5, and that you should really go read that, while re-reading 6, which was 5, but now is not 5, isn't strictly required. Option B is to just copy-paste over the current 5, keep all the old comments, and post a 'new' chapter for 6, even though it is the old chapter.

Yeah, this isn't going to confuse some people. *facehoof*

Or, my editors will slap me with those fish I keep giving them and tell me this is a terrible idea and all this will be for naught. I am not expecting this outcome, to be honest.

Anyways; I hope everyone has a Happy New Year!

I would combine them.

im not really sure which is the best way... but hey you'll figure it out!!:twilightsmile:

I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas filled with much feasting and merriment.

I spent most of Christmas day in bed wtih the flu! Yay!

Also, isn't the ability to reorder a story's chapters, supposed to be coming up soon^TM for Fimfiction?

That would create a mammoth 16k+ chapter. I'm not pleased that the present chapter 5 is over 10k words. I try to aim for between 6 and 8k words in length. It gives a decent amount to read without feeling like each chapter eats up the night. Combining the two is a non-starter for me.

You know they gave us chapter formatting options, right? You can post the 'new' chapter 5 in it's place and the 'new' chapter 6 will just slide over.

Ouch, that is terrible. 365 days in a year, and disease and plague seems to home in on Christmas (and Birthdays) like Fun Seeking Missiles. :pinkiesick:

One of my brothers surprised me with a Twilight Sparkle plushie even.

Pictures or it didn't happen.
Just kidding, good to know you had fun.
About chapters. If I recall correctly you can now rearrange chapters around as you see fit. So it shouldn't be an issue to simply put a new chapter in-between the old ones. Drag and Drop. Unless they did not implement that. Worth checking. Though it could help to give a note or something if it works so as to not confuse anyone..
Edit:
Also I do not know whether it messes with comments or not. You could try making some fake chapters and moving them around though that would cause unnecessary updates... hmm...

>16k

lel I have read 35k+ chapters.

Yeah, i know, that's twice i've been sick this year. That's not happened since i was a little kid. The first was a few days before Thanksgiving (i'm sensing a trend here...).

But... I got better. At least it was the 24 hr flu.

654045>>654050

See, I wasn't aware of that. It makes my life a whole lot easier. So much ado about nothing, and all that rubbish. And I was kinda looking forward to all the arm flailing and running about too. Oh well :trollestia::moustache:

654056

Yeah, I'm aware of some writers having truly mammoth chapter lengths. I'm not them and have found such a word count to be off-putting to some readers. Such as myself. :twilightoops:

654060
Maybe stress? Baked Bads? Lack of said stress? No, seriously it's a known issue that you start getting sick when you have some time off after months or even years of constant work and stress. Basically, lack of hormones causing slackness of immunity system which bumps up probability of being affected by illness.[insert TwilightLecture emote here (we need one)]
Yes, I know you don't care... I don't even know myself why did I wrote that... meh, that's me. Surprising myself all day and night.:twilightsheepish:

654076
I dunno, honestly. I would like to think it wasn't stress, as i've not got much that could cause that going on at the time. Not even getting ready for either holiday was that bad.

I'm leaning towards food, but that's the oddity too, both happened several hours after i ate, but before any meaningful amount could be digested, and nor did i overeat.

I don't think it's a lack of stress either, i graduated way back in April, and have been holding a full time job since this time last year, so it's not like stress is non-existent, it just isn't there in any major amount either.

654088
Yeah, sounds like some food thing. Rarely eaten dishes? Maybe that. It can cause disturbances.
Then again I remember those lectures on psychology that any major or even minor change causes stress. We may not even realise it exists. Graduation and finding a job are major stress generators. Apparently the biggest one is own wedding. Strange, that. And this 'hidden stress' will strain us. Well, as usual. Too much is just as bad as not enough. And we apparently need a bit of stress to exist normally.
...
Are we seriously discussing possible sickness causes in a comment section on MLP fiction site?:rainbowlaugh: Yet another thing to add on my "Strange things I did in my life" list.
Check.

654110
Aaaand... check another thing off the list for myself as well. It goes right below 'What kind of pony ammo would work best for long-range spaceship to spaceship combat?' Personally, i think Pinkie ammo would work wonders as weapon-fired boarding parties. Sure, Aj's got punch, but you need the 'side-effects' that only Pinkie can provide.

But honestly? No, i graduated eight months ago, so it shouldn't be affecting me now, and i've held this position for a year as of exactly two weeks ago. Nothing comes to mind as to what causes it might be.

here is a thought... why not start this new chapter 5 as chapter six and just introduce it as a flashback... like someone is thinking of the previous day.

Ah yes. Christmas day. Traditionally this day has not been awesome for me, and true to tradition, I woke up a bit before midday, ate lunch (and not much of it at that) drank as much alcohol as I dared, played a few games with my brothers and then went to sleep. All in all I'd say I was awake for about ... four hours of Christmas day.
... Yeah, alcohol and chronic fatigue do not go well together.
I got a Twilight Sparkle from my brother too! Only it was one of those toys that manage to not look like the pony it's supposed to be. And it has a bunny! Twilight Sparkle and her bunny. Because it was so sweet of him, I didn't have the heart to say that it was not the Twilight Sparkle figure I would buy. :twilightblush:

My Christmas was pretty good, plenty of merriment, but our food this year wasn't the best to be honest... but that's cool.

As far as pony swag goes, got a Welovefine shirt with Tavi playing the cello, and some hype rainbow dash pajama pants, it was awesome.
