Part One, The Vacation
Well, I just got back from my vacation in Hawaii, so i'm going through all my backlog now. It's always tough to get back into the swing of things when you have two-dozen new chapters to read, hundreds of images on KYM to check out, and everything else like videos and music that you'll probably never get to at this point. However, one of the positive side-effects of vacation (besides fun in the sun and brand new experiences) is a huge surge of creativity! Yep, seemingly every time I'm on vacaton, my mind is veritably assaulted with ideas, from new fic concepts to stuff for existing ones. I have about five new fic ideas, plus a lot of things for IWPFT that will be great to add.
The original concept for IWPFT was, after all, the result of a ten hour road trip my family went on last August (and that's not even the real origin of my name). I was thinking of random stuff, and somehow got onto the subject of multiverses. I was thinking, if there are an infinite number of universes, doesn't that mean that in one of them Twilight is the Princess, and Celestia would be the student? Hmmmm, would make a good fanfic.
It is because of this fact that nowadays, I always carry around a notebook and ink pen wherever I go, so that i'm always ready when inspiration strikes. You guys should see the notebook I have set aside of IWPFT alone, it's quite the sight. Random scribbles all over the page, frequent crossings-out and re-writes, nothing is in chronological order, nor is it usually even gramatticaly correct. It's glorious, glorious chaos. Someday I should take a picture or make a scan of some of the pages so you can all see what these chapters look like before the left side of my brain starts organizing my right.
Part Two, The Story

"It's just the second chapter, barely anything has happened yet."

"Yeah, through a lot of dialogue and techno-babble."

"The chapter was a whole 12 days late."

As I said during that one blog, this chapter did a lot of explaining and all that jazz. Twilight is indeed in an alternate universe, and Celestia is indeed her student. from henceforth (to make things easier), the universe in which Eos is Princess I will refer to as the 'Dawnverse', and the one we all know and love will be the Sunverse or something (Mainverse?). I dunno, if you guys can think of a better name for the 'normal' Verse, feel free to drop it in the comments.
Originally, this chapter was going to begin with Twilight waking up in the Infirmary, then finding Spike and having that conversation with him. As I was writing it, though, I decided I wanted to do more from the other characters' angles, and really help establish the world from their perspective, so as to explain why they're acting the way they are (since it does kinda need explaining). Overall, I think it felt more natural, and it allowed me to end this chapter on a nice, (hopefully) heartwarming moment, with a little fifty-ninth-minute comedy to set up the big thing in Chapter Three: Eos time!
That's right folks, next chapter we'll get to see how Eos is dealing with this. Waking up with an extreme status upgrade is one thing, but I wonder what it's like to wake up as a unicorn librarian, after you've spent the last several thousand years as supreme ruler of everything? should be fun to see!
Now, this chapter marks a lot of turning points for me and the story as a whole. First of all, it is officially the largest single piece of anything i've ever written, and thus this story is way bigger than any literary undertaking of mine in the past. Coming in second place for largest word count i've written would be the first two chapters of an Alpha Centauri / MLP crossover I wrote a while back. I absolutely love the story I had planned, but it was going to be very, very long, had lots of OCs, and was on the darker side, so I decided that it wouldn't make a good "first fic". Someday I would like to publish that thing, but for now i'm focusing on one fic at a time so it'll be a while. But i'm getting off topic now.
The other thing this chapter marks is the end to the 'premade' part of this story. Fairly large sections of Chapter One and Two were written long before I published the fic, but now i've just about got past what I already had made. Everything from this point on is basically being written on the fly. Be aware, this doesn't mean I haven't already planned stuff out, I simply haven't actually written the paragraphs yet. Does this mean that future updates will take longer? I don't think so, mainly because those old portions were were heavily revised and changed when put into the final drafts anyways, so the lack of scraps for future chapters might actually speed things up.
Part Three, Miscellaneous
So, the next chapter will be a few weeks away. My prime order of business is to revise Chapter One and Two, then gather together/organize my scattered notes from vacation, then get into the thick of writing Chapter Three (which I don't have a name for yet). That's about all I can think of right now (which is probably a good thing, this blog is getting really, really long).

That was another one I considered.
I figured it'd be easier to go with something along the lines of "nounverse" because it wouldn't get confused for a place within one of the Verses. Since (at least in my headcanon) there's more in the world of MLP than just Equestria. the Verse is the entire thing.
