Question of the Week #145 · 4:09am March 12th

Hello everyone and welcome back to the question of the week.

Well, at work I used a dye grinder and my hand has been numb since last Friday. On the flip side, I'm going to Hawaii and I'm excited.

Now I wanted to talk about a future project I am working on. As many of you know, I am wanting to at some point step away from writing fanfiction and start writing my own original stories, which is kind of what I wanted to talk about today.

So, one of my inspiration for my stories (as could be seen with my Monster Mares and You series), is the anime series, Bakemonogatari. It's sort of a pseudo monster girls anime about saving yourself.

-Yes, this is the anime with the infamous toothbrush scene... anyway.:twilightblush:

Of course, I love monster girls and I've fallen in love with the idea of a "Tropical Post-apocalypse," that being a world that has been through the apocalypse and while it is changed forever and there are ruins of the old world, civilization is growing in a new tropical world.

I just love the idea of someone swimming by a beach and deep below the ocean waves are the remnants of fallen skyscrapers now covered in coral and a labyrinthine environment for the fish and mutated creatures below.

Now when I say "mutant," I mean it more in the sense of bio-engineered humans/animals or the offspring of bio-engineered humans/animals.

I also love the idea of our Main Character hanging out with some mutant girls (along with humans and psychics), learning about the world and helping them with their troubles and gradually learning how to solve his own problems. I'm especially interested in exploring how cultures might adapt, both by the apocalypse and the mutants present in the world, who would undoubtedly develop their own culture as well.

-I spoilered this image just because some might find it disturbing. I think it's okay, but still. Image can be found: here.

So, based off of this week's topic, I have decided to ask the following questions:

  1. Is this an original story concept that interests you?
  2. If when the time comes that I stop writing MLP fanfiction, but decide to discuss this story concept either in the Original Stories Group, in my blogs or perhaps even a custom Discord server, would you read/participate in them?
  3. And finally, if you were to create a mutant character for a tropical post-apocalyptic world, what strange traits might you give them?

And those are the questions of the week. I know it might seem strange (and perhaps even dismal) at this time to talk about the next step out of this nest, but as I grow older (and I'm already in my 30s) a part of me what to step out of the fandom and to create my own. Don't worry, I still have to finish Neo Somnambula, so I'm not done writing MLP fanfiction just yet.

Thank you all for coming. I hope that you all have a splendid week. :pinkiehappy:

I say go for it!
I'm writing my own story and drawing my own comic. It helps me keep my mind creative. I think it will help you to!

5772035 Thank you.

What are yoyr thoughts on the other two questions? :rainbowderp:

Well, a single and simple concept may not be enough of a draw to them. They usually have something else thats draws something uniquely them.

My little pony wouldn't be the same if it was just all slice of life only. Monster mares/girls would be pretty barely interesting on its own. But, based off your experience with that manga/anime, I don't really watch anime content nowadays, I would tentatively say it is interesting.

For me, I might add in a bit of politics or religious undertones. Because humans like us seem to like conflict, be it real or fake. It doesn't have to be huge, so it can be as arbitrary as "my ship is better than yours".

I probably won't be discussing much about monster people, but I might be curious to see where your discord leads to.

A tropical post-apocalypse is pretty interesting. Maybe these monsters love to collect the pure creatures like untainted humans, animals, or otherwise. Or maybe they like them as pets.

5772037 Yeah, admittedly I am being a bit vague with the concept right now, but I will probably unveil more in the future.

Hm... Pets you say.:duck:

That is an intriguing idea. :raritywink:

1. need more than slice-of-life, liek some kind of conflict would be interseting

2. yea, id read

3. gills, webbed appendages, very smooth skin(like shark)

5772039
Or, you know. Collections like a butterfly collection.

Two different ways of preservation.

5772036
Yes and the mutant ability to blend in with their surroundings.

5772046 Yeah, that could work. Admittedly humans aren't terribly rare in this setting, but it could still happen.

5772040 Could definitely work in some aquatic mutants.

5772098 Camoflage. It certainly could be an interesting route to go.

I keep seeing people bring up a need for conflict and I can say that I do have plans for some physical and emotional/psychological conflict, it just might not be anything extreme like... Country X is coming, we need to fight.

I suppose in addition to Bakemonogatari it might also take influence from Gravity Falls as well, though less supernatural or more along the lines of mutants, psionics... Maybe drug (or mushroom) induced hallucinations (not sure yet).
