It Begins · 9:59pm Oct 14th, 2023

Hello everyone.

Today I am proud to present the beginning of the Storytelling Adventure for Ponyville Ciderfest 2023; a little ditty titled, simply "Opening."

(Written by yours truly, of course. Edited by Vivid Syntax and Sonicsuns)

Opening is both the inciting incident of the story of the con and the prologue to the Scattered Pages book. If you want to find out what happens next, well... come to the con!

I'm very, very excited for you all to see what all our wonderful contributors have prepared. It's gonna be a weekend to remember!

I don't think I've been the first comment on something in 7 years. Usually I'm necroposting.

I've been in interactive fiction for more than 40 years now--the first time I knew I wanted to program was when I read the December 1980 BYTE on Adventure as a kid, and I learned to program by reading the source code of "Lost Dutchman's Gold" and "Pirate Adventure" in that issue. I began planning my own interactive fiction even though I didn't have a computer. That issue of BYTE set me on the paths of fiction writing and artificial intelligence.

Scattered Pages may be the most carefully thought-out massively-multireader IF experiment yet. I know a lot of people have put a lot of work into this, and I hope you all keep notes so you can tell me how it went!

I'm very behind on FIMFiction, but looking forward to the con! Thanks for the work you and the others are putting into it!
