I like writing about the worst day of a character's life; it lets us see the mettle inside. (Pronouns: RB/20 )

    Some books I love

I haven't produced much content lately. Just not feeling "pony." Been working on some space opera I might post to Royal Road or Amazon or something someday.

In light of my recent lack of content, have some of my favorite books:

Kid: We learned about "SPQR" in ancient Rome.

    Me: Romanes eunt domes!

    Wife: What?

    Me: Don't worry about it.

    Always worth a re-read

I just re-read, for the sixth or eighth time, one of my all time favorite books:
Neptune's Inferno: The U.S. Navy at Guadalcanal, James D. Hornfischer

A brief aside · 10:47pm Sep 12th, 2023

Thanks to everyone who voted and commented, "Sweetie Bot Installs Urban Dictionary" has been a rousing success and I appreciate that you took the time.

A few minor notes on the "Making of:"

I wrote this eleven months ago, decided it was lacking something, didn't have the necessary punch, and sat on it. Then I reread it, decided I didn't know how to improve it, and just hit "publish." I'm glad I did!

Also, this is the first fic I ever wrote with the [Profanity] red tag. Generally, I skip fics tagged [Profanity] because 95% are teenage edgelord SUPER CERAL stories that think profanity = adult.

I used the profanity tag this time as a bit of marketing. "Cute filly? Urban Dictionary? Profanity? Concern dot gif!" I wanted people browsing the new column to see that combination and think "I wanna rubberneck at this train wreck."

I think it worked.

teenage edgelord SUPER CERAL stories that think profanity = adult

I'll let the Narnia guy explain why those guys are wrong and dumb:

Critics who treat adult as a term of approval, instead of as a merely descriptive term, cannot be adult themselves. To be concerned about being grown up, to admire the grown up because it is grown up, to blush at the suspicion of being childish; these things are the marks of childhood and adolescence. And in childhood and adolescence they are, in moderation, healthy symptoms. Young things ought to want to grow. But to carry on into middle life or even into early manhood this concern about being adult is a mark of really arrested development. When I was ten, I read fairy tales in secret and would have been ashamed if I had been found doing so. Now that I am fifty I read them openly. When I became a man I put away childish things, including the fear of childishness and the desire to be very grown up.

Ha, yes, exactly.

Hurray for success!

Did you traumatize yourself reading Urban Dictionary though?

Did you traumatize yourself reading Urban Dictionary though?

I spent a few hours reading it to find new words to use for Sweetie. The things I saw ... I've seen things, you people wouldn't believe, hmm ... Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion ... I've watched C-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhauser Gate ...

But does your typical teenage edgelord SUPER CEREAAL use only the one red tag?

I wonder which red tags and combinations tend to correlate with which kinds of stories? (Says a Birb who once pub'd a T rated story of 'wholesomeness' that had all nine red tags as a funny scavenger hunt for the reader.)

When your story fails to get 600 likes in 2023 (because you gave up on improving it 'too early.')
