Here's a "Featured Box" Without Anon Stories · 1:19pm Aug 15th, 2023
Edit/Update: The search by 'heat' doesn't treat story length in quite the same way as the Featured Box's full algorithm does, so the results are NOT entirely comparable. When I tested this initially, the Box had such a large proportion of Anon stories in it that any discrepancy in NON-ANON story results wasn't initially obvious.

Lately I've been seeing complaints that fimfiction.net's "Featured Box" is getting taken over by Anon stories, which it seems are mostly only liked by Anon fans.
The "Featured Box" stories are picked by 'heat,' which is "calculated on a mix of a few things. The number of likes a story has received, the proportion of likes to dislikes, the total number of ratings, how frequently it's being viewed and the time since it was approved are all factored into the equation."

The 'real' Featured Box specially reserves the bottom three slots for preexisting stories that have been updated, but this basic search doesn't do that. (Maybe I'll find out or figure out how to do that, I don't know?)

To be fair, lately it's been getting taken over by one specific author who happens to write Anon stories.

Stories that it could be argued are actually the same continuity and should be separate chapters of one story instead of a myriad of different stories. I enjoy their work, but they're very clearly gaming the system.

One author(Runic) has basically halved the selection of stories I'd be willing to read in the featured box, I've seen so many good stories come out that has not gotten nearly enough attention because the box has like 4 anon stories with mature off.
If you have mature on, there is only one story that is not anon or porn, (not including the 3 reserved stuff)
I know some people might like this stuff, but it is blocking out all the other stuff people might like.
I wish there was a feature where I can block myself from seeing certain tags in the box (like how there are basically two featured lists, one with mature, and one without.) so I can just turn off anon, and see some of the stories getting less attention. I like your list, but it is not very convenient.
Personally, I'm in favour of removing the "Anon" tag entirely from the site. It's not even an official character: it comes firmly under the "OC" banner.

It's 4chan's collective self-insert. The fact that "self-insert" is itself a tag means you're still basically correct.
