"Which Pony Transcripts Do You Want?" "Yes." · 7:05pm Jun 17th, 2023

Ever wanted to check every use of a particular word in the entire show? Count all the times somepony speaks? Flit from one transcript to another without all that tedious mucking about on category pages?

In short, do you want all pony transcripts combined into one super-transcript?

Then you need help this handy-dandy wiki resource for all your transcripting needs!

Transcripts: the last word on any pony subject! :derpytongue2:

From "Friendship is Magic, Part 1" all the way to "The Last Problem", running the gamut of the Equestria Girls and Pony Life spin-offs, and even including the pony shorts and specials, this super-transcript has it all.

Browse the entire set at once, or select a particular episode from the contents page at the top of the screen. CTRL + F to your heart's content! Prop up pointless pedantic polemics! Look for rude words! The wiki has it all with the super-transcript: the transcript to blend all transcripts!

Content Warning: May induce drowsiness, sleep deprivation, dehydration, starvation, or cessation of vital signs in ponies with OCPD. Consult a doctor before scaling any and all word mountains. Some episodes may prove allergenic to certain users. Load times may vary.

That's all for now. Impossible Numbers, out.

The above one does work, but on top of not working on mobile, and requiring the user to use their browser's own search function, it's slow to load and to scroll. There's a much better one here (it uses the same transcripts as the wiki), pre-built with a search-tool (so no need for CTRL/CMD+F), especially handy on mobile. As it only loads what you search, there's no slowdown either.

Plus, under Help, it lists the formatting you can use to specify by episode, by the character speaking, or to only grab full word. So, for instance, I can check every instance of someone calling Twilight just Twi, for instance ā€“ it's twenty-three. And then how many are by Spike or Applejack, who used most instances.

This one has been very handy for me. Confirming, among other things, how little such highly-adopted fandom phrases were used ā€“ the nickname of Dashie pops up eight times all show, all told. And of course, that all but the first instance of the eight times 'twenty percent cooler' popped up were in the last two seasons. Forgetting panhandling, here we have fan-panhandling.

Whoops, I keep forgetting not everyone uses a computer or laptop like I do. Thanks for the backup link/upgrade. Plugged a hole, there!

Also, I count 276 cases of Rarity (or a Rarity, in the case of e.g. Equestria Daily) saying "Darling!" across all media, ignoring twelve cases of someone else saying it (sometimes whilst imitating her, or in one Twilight case* reading a message she wrote) and two cases of a Rarity illusion doing it.

* From "P.P.O.V. (Pony Point of View)".

Ah, I suppose that is one advantage the transcript you cited has: mine is purely a FiM one (literally just the one advantage; I tried using that wiki page and it's slow to load and scroll on my new-ish iMac), only adding to the show the Movie, "Best Gift Ever", the shorts between Seasons 8/9, and "Rainbow Roadtrip". So if one wants to check EqG, there is yours, I supposeā€¦

For comparison, restricting things just to FiM and its direct media, 'Darling' returns 147 lines where it pops up (150 occurrences off multiple uses in a sentence, so searching manually with one's browser still helps narrow things down). Restricting it to just Rarity reduced it to 135 lines (138 occurrences), removing twelve just like yourself. So guess no one else has ever said 'darling"' in EqG? Looks that way.

What was the Rarity illusion that said 'darling' twice? Best I could think of was the false flashbacks from others in "P.P.O.V. (Pony Point of View)", but that's a lot more than two. And surely you wouldn't meant the Rarity clone in "The Mean 6" either.

This is AWESOME!

This page and the one 5733780 linked have been invaluable tools in my research many a time.

Hold on, let me double-check. I do this the slow way round... OK, so one was an apparition in a Pinkie fantasy about Opposite Day from "The Maud Couple", and the other was the illusion that confronted Sandbar in "What Lies Beneath". Mean Rarity from "The Mean 6" never uses the word "darling", though she does say "mine" a lot.

Oh, and for those wondering about the twelve other utterers of the dreaded "darling", here you go!

From "A Dog and Pony Show":

Sapphire Shores: Well, of course I do, darling. I make it a point to know all of the up-and-coming designers and Clothes Horse magazine simply raved about you.

From "Sweet and Elite":

Fluttershy: Oh, poor Opal. Where is the sick darling?

Upper Crust: Darling, I'm so glad you made it.

From "The Crystalling - Part 2":

Twilight Velvet: Cadance, darling, aren't we gonna name the poor little dear, or are we gonna spend our entire visit just calling her "the baby"?

From "The Saddle Row Review":

Rainbow Dash: What would she do without us? Huh. Lemme think. [imitating Rarity] "Darlings, I'm absolutely doomed, doomed, doomed!" [laughs, normal voice] Heh, I sound just like her!

From "Applejack's 'Day' Off":

Aloe: Um... Miss Rarity? Eh, how much longer are you planning to stay in here, darling?

From "Viva Las Pegasus":

Director: I think you've done enough of that! Darling?

From "P.P.O.V. (Pony Point of View)":

Twilight Sparkle: [reading] "Sorry, darling, but I must decline the invitation to your soiree. While I'm sure it will be positively resplendent, there are certain ponies I'd rather not associate with at the moment. Rarity."

From "Celestial Advice":

Spike: No! I-I mean, you could. It's like Rarity always says... [imitating Rarity] "There's no such thing as overdressed, darling. You're just the best-looking pony in the room." [chuckles]

From "Honest Apple":

Starstreak: Wonderful to hear, darling.

From My Little Pony Best Gift Ever:

Princess Cadance: Which one of us can fly, darling?

From My Little Pony: Rainbow Roadtrip:

Mrs. Hoofington: Oh, darling, stop it.

I too intend to use this power only for good. šŸ¤ž

Although now you mention it: as far as I can see, the Rarities in the various "P.P.O.V. (Pony Point of View)" retellings use it about six times total between them, so that might need to be taken into account...

Plus, thereā€™s also the one from when Ocellus impersonated Rarity in ā€œSchool Daze - Part 1ā€. Which isnā€™t returned when you search darling because itā€™s written phonetically (ā€œGenerosity field trip, daaarling!ā€). As the wiki sometimes does that depending on the whim on the one adding it, one needs to be careful to remember these counts are not hard and fast.

Either way: yep, ā€˜darlingā€™ got a lot more frequent later on in the show. In the earlier seasons, you could go a whole episode with Rarity in it quite a bit and not hear it!

A considerable resource. Thank you!

Another stat I recalled searching way back that I have now checked again: even with incorporating Pinkie's place of residence and employment, 'sugarcube' only reaches 64 uses in all of FiM and associated, not even half of 'darling''s 150. And if we omit 'Sugarcube Corner', it's only 41 (arguably 40, as Vapour Trail says "Aw, sugarcubes!" in "Top Bolt"). AND if we only count utterances by Applejack, it's a mere 37.

Easy enough to understand ā€“ darling is a far more casual term of endearment, 'sugarcube' is more for those particularly close to Applejack. Least, till we get to 'darling''s lazy crutch overuse later on. :ajbemused: Something 'sugarcube' is free from ā€“ it's spread pretty evenly across the show's run. :yay:

Since you did, here's the other character uses of 'sugarcube' too.

From "Where the Apple Lies":

Granny Smith: Oh-ho, sugarcube. Your big sister lied so much when she was a filly, the whole family ended up in the hospital.

From "Top Bolt":

Vapor Trail: Oh, no! I can't let that happen! I mean, ah, uh... Aw, sugarcubes!

From "The Crystalling - Part 2":

Discord: Can I trouble you for another sugarcube?

From "The Saddle Row Review":

Auntie Applesauce: Sugarcube, we never miss your show.

Two others from Apples, one Discord referring to the actual food item, and one a case of Vapour Trail's that may not count. Fair enough.

I will concede that one other disadvantage the GitHub-hosted one I use has is only returning the associated line, so you don't see the context directly. Rarely a problem, as only sometimes do I need to see the context, and if so, I check the transcript proper in the wiki. But maybe that's just me. :twilightsheepish:

EDIT: And I completely forgot the direct wiki search would include Pony Life too! It did seem strange that EqG would add almost 100 instances to FiM's 150, given it only adds up to, like, 40-something 22-min episodes, relative to 230-odd from FiM's lot. Makes sense now.

Hopefully, that can be forgiveably overlooked as a rounding error. But yeah, non-exact oddities like that do not help.

Yes, I noticed the clustering of highlighted words around Season Five onward. And at a crude measure, it seems to really explode in the Pony Life transcript section.

5733793

To be fair, I didn't make it, just found it, so credit goes to the site itself. But you're welcome! :yay:

That's why there's an advantage to using the two sites in tandem: cross-referencing what you find to more accurately pinpoint its context.

Exquisite, both this and 5733780's contribution. Thank you both.

Neigh problemo! :rainbowwild:

Ugh, couple of amendments to this one. Firstly, I originally wrote 286, but that was a calculation error: it's been corrected to 276. Because the total was 290, and I was meant to subtract 14 (12 spoken by others, 2 illusions), the working should be 290-12-2=276.

From 5733790, that should probably be docked further to 270 (thus excluding the P.P.O.V. imagine spots of Rarity saying it).

There's also Mike's point about differently spelled versions to keep in mind here: 5733791.

Also, I have since found a couple of "darlin" examples rather than "darling", which technically should be added to
5733788:

From "Family Appreciation Day":

Granny Smith: Shake a leg there, slowpoke! We got a gaggle's worth of goods to gather before the harvest. Come on! [singing to the tune of "Skip to My Lou"] Gonna make zap apple jam, hoop-dee-hoo! Gatherin' my goodies now, hoop-dee-hee! Singin' and dancin', diddley-hoo, flippity-floo, my darlin!

From "The Perfect Pear"

Bright Mac: Happy one hundred and thirty-one thousand, four hundred and fifty-six hour anniversary, darlin'.
