It's the obligatory new year blog post.

And yes, I am posting this at around midnight on new year. I have a nasty cold, so I decided to disobey nurgle's one command and stay home.

    Just for kicks

I'm mucking around with Lulu for a work-related project (very boring stuff) and thought I would do a quality test with something fun.

    The odd things

I've just been reading through old comments on my scraps story, after publishing yet another chunk from the ancient cutting room floor. It's remarkable how many of the commenters are still around - but also how many logged off for the last time, soon after making their last comment there.

    But in brighter news

While I'm not making any promises about any particular project here, I am actually writing again. I figure if I write enough of something, some pony words might drop out somewhere along the line as well. You never know. What I'm working on at the moment is essentially a re-write of a story I read a long time ago; an old pulp sci-fi tale, about a spaceship that manages to get lost in the

Revealing nothing of the plot. · 4:24pm Dec 16th, 2012

No plot anywhere.

Left to right: Crincile di Botici, Twilight Velvet, Star Sparkle.

Yes, Star Sparkle and Twilight Velvet do look similar. Yes they have similar cutie marks. They're not related, don't be so disgusting.

Pervert.

So yes, this is Twilight's mother and two of her herdmates (if you don't know what I'm talking about when I say that, you haven't been paying attention!) who I have developed quite an affection for as I've written. Frankly, they're starting to worry me. Star's become a bit self-destructive and Twilight Velvet is two strong coffees away from a fatal aneurysm. :twilightoops: I must give them something more fulfilling to do...

Anyhoo the arm seems to be doing nicely now. Time to work on a thing for Nightmare Moon, who has promised that she'll kill me last if I do that thing. Very generous, wouldn't you say?

Star Sparkle's eyes seem weird, as one has a large pupil and the other had the same pupil/iris proportion as the other two mares. The lines under Star Sparkle's eye make her look noticably older than the other two as well, I don't know if that was your intention. That said, I'm still envious of your ability to draw, my own visual art skills are... lacking :rainbowlaugh:

CRINKLE BUTT! I know that this may be a bit much, or perhaps planned for later, but I must have more story about crinkle butt! At least the whole family thing. It's not really necessary and you touched on it earlier with the Star Sparkle interview, so can you put a bit of that in there please? You know, if you feel like it. If that's ok?:yay:

I'd invest in a New-U station.

618676 And have it reset all my money to -2million? No thanks! :duck:

618430 ... you aren't meant to notice problems! :raritydespair: But yes, she's meant to look older, or at least a little more careworn. It's hard to make cartoon characters look slightly older. Seems to be an all-or-nothing thing, unfortunately...

618456 I'm working on something with Star and Crinkle in it right now, as a matter of fact. The way things are ballooning I'm almost going to end up with a whole novels-worth of stories about them. :twilightoops: Maybe I'll dip back and forth through the time as I feel like it...

Try a single, slightly curved line at the corner of her eye(s) and maybe another, smaller and lighter one beyond that? Similar to what you've got currently, but oriented to the lower, outer corners of her eyes and with lighter lines than you've used. The "deep" appearance of the lines seems to contribute greatly to the perceived age. Hints of those lines rather than what you've currently got would likely be better

And seriously, I just offer critiques when I can, I usually don't have anything useful to comment other than "THAT'S FUCKING AWESOME" :fluttercry:

Just in case it wasn't clear though, the other two mare's look great, both having a certain amount of 'age' to their appearance that Twilight, Dash, and Lyra have not in the other pictures of yours I've seen. It's just that Star Sparkle's a bit more exaggerated than expected :twilightblush:

Nice. Like I said, you don't really need to go SO in depth with them, seeing as the main story is about Lero and his herd of awesomeness. But I can understand feeling the need to do more. Once I get an idea, I usually have to put it down on paper or write it down or make a million sticky notes to remind myself to do it later. Lists upon lists upon lists and such:twilightoops:

Also, I like that Star Sparkle looks older. It gives her an air of maturity and a sort of cougar thing going on :twilightblush:

I love how different an older, carefree, and easygoing Star Sparkle appears when compared to the more mature looking Crinkle Butt (:trollestia:) and Twilight Velvet.

Their styles are very fitting for their perceived characters. (STAR SPARKLEEEEEEE!!! :flutterrage:)

Well borrow some Plasmids and hack the darn thing!

All unicorns. Is Star's herd racist? :pinkiesick:

621470 Nope! They have a token pegasus. :duck:

She writes erotic novels.

In a dank backroom where no one can see her lest her presence upset her unicornian overlords? :raritydespair:
