Formula 1 is about to begin! · 10:14am Feb 27th, 2023
The teams are at Sakhir, the season starts on Friday with practice, and the first Grand Prix of the season is on Sunday.
What did we learn from pre-season testing?
- The racing will be closer this year, the spread between teams smaller
- Making predictions is a fool's errand
I hope Red Bull pulls off another championship, with Max in P1 and Checo in P2, but I'm not going to predict that. Ferrari looks good this year, although I wouldn't be surprised if they make a series of unforced errors, again, and shit themselves like last year.
Mercedes is harder to read. I suspect they'll win a few races, but they will need to bring some real upgrades to the car to be champions. I also stick with my earlier prediction that George will out-score Lewis.
I think Fernando Alonso at Aston Martin is likely to win a race this year, and by the end of the season, we'll be saying "Big Four teams" instead of the "Big Three teams" we've been talking about for the last decade.
I love Lando Norris and want him to take his first win. This will not happen this year. McLaren appears to have publicly shit their pants with the car this year.
Alfa Romeo is looking surprisingly good. I hope Zhou Guanyu will score a podium this year. I like him.
I hope Haas can do well. I feel compelled to cheer the lone US team on the grid.
I suspect Alpine will be the disappointment of the season.
Anyway, it's gonna be a lit season. I think the main thing we can hope, wish, and/or pray for is a safe season and no injuries.
In the same machinery. Not sure how Lewis will cope.

Lewis will take it well.
His fans will lose their minds.

My bold prediction after pre season is that Haas will finish the constructors championship ahead of McLaren. As much as I love McLaren, they are going to have an uphill battle from week one. And if the big upgrades they're betting on don't pay off, they could easily fall down to P7.
