January 11 Update - Nightmare Night · 7:40pm Jan 11th, 2023
The next chapter of Nightmare Night is well underway and currently coming at a slow to moderate clip. I've got 6100 words down so far and as these are the story's climactic chapters, there's a good chance that this will double that length before all is said and done. I think now that the entirity of the Sunset/Twilight duel will be done in one chapter as opposed to two, though.
My primary goal here is a suitably epic alicorn-level magic duel that's (mostly) fire-based between Solar Inferno and Queen Eclipse, which involves a battle of wits as well as spellcasting. But it won't be all serious as it will also involve an occasional attempt at sensual subjugation as well a degree of one-upmanship, in the form of an unspoken contest to see who can come up with the best attack technique based on human shows and games. It also has to end in a satisfactory manner while segueing to the next duel, which is the long-awaited marquee matchup between two antagonists that I don't think I have to name.
I admit I'm a little sensitive to the insinuation that if Sunset's not going to defeat Twilight, then there was no point in her ascension no matter how badass it was. So I'm going to ensure that whatever happens, her ordeal was not in vain and Eclipse does not emerge unscathed. Best guess is that this will be draft complete by the end of the weekend or early next week, meaning I'll be aiming for release in 7-10 days. After that, I'll be doubling back to Midnight Rising since I have to finish that before resuming Nightmare Night.
Aside from all that, I have to make a decision on possible elbow surgery soon since an MRI has just shown two partially torn tendons due to excessive weightlifting that are causing me pain. But more on that later. I’ll post one more blog update for the new Nightmare Night chapter before release, and since this isn’t a clop chapter, I might even be able to finagle a teaser out of it.
I think that such an insinuation would anger Eclipse no matter the outcome since it was impressive that Sunset managed to achieve ascension at all since that's not easy to do.
